"The owner and I designed a snow fence and electric heating system for my metal roof. I had issues with snow sliding off the roof and falling in front of the garage door. Last year it almost hit me. I have been through a heavy snowfall winter and the fence system works perfectly."

As a locally owned business, we believe Northern Nevada deserves roofing and gutter services built on trust and not sales tactics. For over 20 years, our mission has been to deliver fair pricing, honest recommendations, and dependable workmanship to the families who call this community home.\n\nWe’re not a franchise or a rotating crew. We’re your neighbors, invested in protecting the roofs over our shared community.

Roofing questions, answered by experts

No, you can’t use your home’s square footage. You have to calculate your roof’s square footage, and then you may have to convert your square footage measurement to correspond with how the roofing material is measured. For instance, some roofing is sold in “squares,” which equals the total square footage of the roof divided by 100. Shingles are sold in bundles that may not correspond to the number of squares you need. Metal roofing is sold as sheets, so determine the amount of square feet each panel will cover and then divide the total square footage by the coverage area.

Mansard roofs provide more attic space or living space on the interior than many other styles, and they offer a classic appearance and old-world charm to any home. They also often have multiple windows on the lower hip, providing ample natural light and ventilation.

On the other hand, they’re more expensive to install and replace due to their complexity and rarity, and the low slope of the upper hip means that heavy snowfall can be an issue. Additionally, they’re more prone to leaking than many other roof styles.

You cannot replace granules that have been lost off shingles. The granule embedding process is part of shingle manufacturing, and once the bond holding the granules to the shingles has been lost, the granules are gone for good. Shingles with granule loss must be fully replaced to continue offering adequate protection.

The length of time you can leave a leaking roof before it causes damage will vary greatly depending on a variety of factors. The best approach when it comes to roof leaks is to play it safe and fix it as soon as possible, whether you take the DIY route or hire a roofing professional to inspect, diagnose, and repair the problem.

Though roof coatings can last up to two decades, it’s a good idea to recoat your roof every four to six years. This is especially important if you have a built-up roof, which is vulnerable to moisture issues. Inspect your built-up roofs annually to make sure they don’t need a new coat.
