"Everything works fine, the alarm arrived quickly and ready to be installed. Before shipping me the equipment, a technician had me talk through all of the sensors I needed, and they named them and set up the order on the phone. They let me trade a sensor in the package for its official cost and get a different sensor instead. I ended up needing a lot more door/window sensors than included in the package, so the cost ended up being considerably higher.
Once the box arrived, all I needed to do was peel off some double-stick-tape backing off each sensor and stick it in the appropriate spot. They numbered each sensor and had a list of where they belonged. Once I turned the alarm panel on, it had all the names we discussed on the phone preprogrammed.
Note that if you opt for self installation, they won't give you very detailed instructions on wall mounting the panel, but will instead assume you want to use it on a table (kind of like a land line telephone). I was a little annoyed at this but figured out how to wall anchor it on my own. Note that there's an antenna with a long cable on it that is supposed to be secured inside the wall, and the panel will not wall mount successfully unless you get the cable out of the way-- so if you're not comfortable drilling a 1/2" hole in your wall, skip the wall mount.
The main reason this review is a B and not an A is that Security One's customer service and activation/tech support folks are very hard to get ahold of. The alarm monitoring is through another company, and that part works great-- so once your system is set there shouldn't be major issues. Getting activated may be a different issue. When I called to activate, and a few times I called afterwards with questions and simple requests that I needed a technician for (I needed to move a sensor from one place to another, and wanted to rename it, etc.), customer service was completely overwhelmed with calls. Someone answered the phone and got the details of what I needed, and then they had a technician call me back when they were available. A couple of times, they said the wait would be around 10 minutes initially, but it actually took hours until someone was available. This was during a weekday in the middle of the day.
A secondary reason this doesn't deserve an A rating is that some of the equipment is a little finnicky. I've discovered that the local cell tower is broadcasting the wrong clock time, and so every 18 hours my alarm panel contacts the tower and resets my clock about an hour and a half slow. When this happens, all of the thermostat schedules I set on alarm.com stop working properly. I've tried resolving this issue via the alarm.com support request form, but no one from the security company has followed up after several days. Time to call in and wait an hour or two for them to call back, I guess. They say that their motion detectors are pet friendly, but lo and behold the first day we armed the system, our cats managed to trigger our basement detector-- the sensor is placed high on the wall, and they're small cats. So, I moved that sensor to an area the cats will never go, but had to give up some coverage in the process.
In all the system is working well, the feature set is very high value for the price, and I have a system that does almost everything claimed (and some of the work getting my issues resolved is on me, so far the service has taken care of every problem I have had).

"I received my package in a few days. Once I received it, it took me a couple of hours to get it installed. The reason for the delay was due to my efforts to ensure my house was adequately covered by the motion detectors. I had a few obstacles that I had to deal with. The motion detectors have a test mode that allow you to test the coverage. Once I was set up, I called Frontpoint to test and activate the system."

"Be aware that if you hire ADT, you are actually working with two different companies, who do not communicate with each other. I paid for the three year contract up front, and am still getting bills and past due notices a month later (in addition to having them charge my credit card for another payment) *** After talking with Jason, he was more than willing to talk about the problems we had and to go above and beyond to correct the issues so we would be happy. He had another technician come out and install a smoke detector and review any questions we had. He spent extra time making sure we were we felt comfortable with the key pad and how to do all the functions pertaining to our package. The money was refunded on our credit card and all is well :)"

"We actually went with ADT after a salesman came to our home. He hooked us up with someone who came to do the install. They did decent work, but since everything has been installed some of the sensors have stopped working, we had to replace the ring doorbell, and I’m not fully confident that if our house were burning down anyone would be called (the smoke detectors have gone off a handful of times with no action taken). Great customer service upfront though!"

Yes, you should get a quote or an estimate from an electrician. Most electricians offer free estimates or quotes. When getting quotes, do your research and verify each electrician’s license. Get quotes from three different electricians to compare. If the prices or items listed appear different on the quotes, ask the electrician to clarify. Learning as much as you can about the electrical work you want done will help you get the most accurate estimate.

Qualified, licensed electricians will charge from $50 to $100 per hour. The cost to hire an electrician for emergency visits may range from $100 to $200 per hour because this urgent service usually takes place during off hours and may require an electrician to leave or reschedule jobs they’re currently working on. Scheduling work on holidays or during periods of high customer demand, like after a major storm, will also lead to higher rates or extra fees.

An accredited, licensed smart home specialist should install your home automation system. For example, a qualified smart home specialist will belong to an organization like the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association. Licenses for qualified technicians require the technician to demonstrate experience and pass state testing. If you’re ready to install a home automation system, consult multiple technicians in your area to compare services and prices and find the best fit for your job.

The average cost of a home automation system is around $950, but typically ranges from $200 to $1,700, depending on the brand, system features, system size, home size, and location. The highest-end home automation systems can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $150,000, including smart appliances like refrigerators, dishwashers, and ovens that require installing extensive wiring. Any subscriptions for maintenance services will also impact the cost of a home automation system.
