"The job that was performed went exceptionally well. I didn't have a pick-up truck to retrieve the water heater from a local store, he went over to the store and picked it up for me. He removed the old one and installed the new one. He also cleaned up the water that leaked over when emptying the old one. "The service went very well. I called and asked if a plumber could come and change our expansion tank off of our hot water heater and was told that the plumber would be there between 1 and 3. About 15 minutes before 1, the plumber called and asked if he could come by. The service at the house went well and he used buckets and towels to make sure he didn't spill water everywhere. "I met Jill at our home and she took measurements and photos of our sons' room. We talked briefly about my ideas for the space. She provided several concept boards, for window treatments, furniture, and an overall "look" for the rooms. She also provided us with floor plans for each room. She brought paint colors, fabric selections, etc. Our first job with Jill was our sons' room. For the playroom, she had some pretty unique ideas that were right in line with the contemporary- but not too modern- look we wanted. She helped me with tips on doing some of the decorative painting myself, but also provided a few resources in case we wanted to hire the job out. She also helped me coordinate a subcontractor who handled a set of beautiful custom blinds. Jill tells me that in some cases she handles all the shopping, but that's part of the fun for me so she provided a list of links and stores for the items she chose. She gave a few choices for almost every item- budget and higher end. That allowed me to meet my budget while still getting some showstopper items, because we were able to save in other areas. Within a few weeks the room came together and got rave reviews after I posted the before and after photos on Facebook. And of course our visitors were amazed at the transformation. In the interim, we were redoing our guest bathroom on our own, and Jill was able to come into the project to help us choose tiles, wall colors, and vanity choices. A quick job that turned out really well considering the turn around time. A few months later we hired Jill again to rethink our living room and dining room. We were on a much more limited budget for both rooms but wanted to see what she could come up with considering some challenges in both the shape of the rooms and that I wanted to integrate some antique pieces we already owned. She came up with a brilliant look that blended our older pieces with a contemporary and clean look and we came in well under budget. Working with Jill was a lot of fun and we expect to continue to work with her to refine the look of our home. When I was considering hiring an interior designer I was worried about my low budget and lack of experience hiring someone to make these kind of choices for me. "We needed someone to install tile around the bathtub at an apartment unit we own. Joey at 2 Daughters Handyman came to the rescue. He quoted us a fair price based on what we could see. However, once he started the work other complications were discovered such as mold behind the existing wall. Even though they’re modern-looking, easier to clean, can be hung at any height, and help save space compared to traditional toilets, wall-hung toilets have some downsides. They’re more expensive than standard toilets, sometimes by a few hundred dollars. They’re also difficult to install and may require major plumbing work to reroute the drain if the previous toilet was a floor-mount model.
This tight fit can make repairs more difficult. You’ll also have to consider where you can hang them and weight limit restrictions, so they may not be the best fit for every home.
There are several methods to temporarily or permanently fix a burst pipe. In a pinch, you can seal up a small leak with either silicon pipe tape or epoxy specifically designed for this purpose. You can also purchase a pipe repair kit that supplies a clamp and gasket to seal the pipe. In the long term, a plumber will either remove the damaged area of the pipe and add a replacement coupling or replace the entire length of the pipe between joints.
If you go to turn it counterclockwise and it won’t turn anymore, it’s open. Like most other valves, you should be able to turn a radiator valve counterclockwise (to the left) to open it and clockwise (right) to close it. To close a radiator valve, turn it clockwise until you meet some resistance and can’t turn anymore, but do so carefully to avoid breaking the valve.
At most, polybutylene pipes last 10 to 15 years. The material is simply not durable enough to withstand some of the chemical elements found in our water supply, such as fluoride and chlorine. These pipes tend to deteriorate quickly and lead to leaks or even pipe bursts. If your home still has polybutylene pipes, we recommend replacing them as soon as possible to prevent major water damage in your home.
There’s no way around it—a burst pipe is often a homeowner’s worst nightmare, and the situation can range from semi-serious to dire. If you don’t catch the leak, it can lead to thousands of dollars worth of water damage.
At best, you’ll notice a burst pipe quickly, turn off your water supply, and use a wet vacuum to clean up minor flooding. A plumber can repair the pipe, and you won’t be left with a major bill. At worst, severe water damage can collapse floors, ceilings, walls, and foundations, sometimes leading to major repairs and renovations.
