Distilled white vinegar can help you remove candle wax from surfaces like countertops. You’ll need to scrape off most of the wax and use the distilled white vinegar to help soften and remove the rest and leftover residue. Instead, you can skip the rough sanding step and sand-screen the old finish with a buffer, removing only the top layer of polyurethane.

Use pH-neutral cleaners, avoid acidic substances, and reseal porous stones periodically to maintain their finish.

Steam mopping might be better than regular mopping if you don’t use the right cleaning products or properly rinse or wring out the mop head. However, if you use the right techniques, regular mopping also sanitizes effectively—even if it takes more effort. Plus, you know you can use a regular mop on any flooring—including to clean laminate floors or hardwood, which don’t do well with steam cleaning.
