"Charles and Lorenzo are first-rate, knowledgeable, hard-working professionals. We will have them taking care of our landscaping needs from now on. Charles and Lorenzo were friendly, courteous, and above all professional and efficient. I was very impressed in that after the job had been completed they were more than happy to offer suggestions and advice on how to maintain and take care of minor concerns not associated with the original agreement - talk about establishing goodwill with their clients. Because of the above-mentioned and the overall excellent quality of the work, I will be using High Country Landscaping on a permanent basis."

Small jobs welcome

"Deborah is highly responsive and very thoughtful in her approach to landscape design. She did an excellent job in transforming the front of our house by designing two beautiful large garden areas with natural rock retaining walls, use of hardscaping materials and great combination of perennial, annual, shrubs and bushes. We truly could not be happier, and to be candid we are very picky about design. Deborah spent all the time she needed to get it right, and she takes immense pride in her work product. We very much look forward to working with her again. She is FANTASTIC!!"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Yes, rotting leaves can be good for your soil. The decaying leaves release nutrients into the soil that can boost the health of your plants, and the organic matter also helps improve airflow and water drainage.

Hardscaping often requires preparation of the ground in the area where the feature is being installed. This can include digging, compacting, and leveling the soil, ensuring adequate drainage, and removing any existing plants. The extent of preparation needed will depend on the type and size of the hardscaping feature being installed.

In most cases, it’s better to remove rocks before adding mulch. Layering the two will restrict drainage and plant health, and can create an unpleasant texture underfoot.

The main benefit of topsoil is that it enriches the soil with nutrients that help your plants and garden grow at a healthy rate. Topsoil improves how well your soil drains water and gives it a more fertile texture, so that not only do you get better planting, but weeding is also much easier.

Weeds can grow through rubber mulch, but it depends on if you removed all the weeds in your garden beforehand. Weeds already in the soil can grow even when using rubber mulch. However, that doesn’t mean that your garden will be littered with rubber and weeds, but it does mean that the occasional weed might still pop up. Another way you can increase your weed suppression is by using landscape fabric as a second layer.
