"Juan and his crew were extremely professional and courteous, not to mention true artists. We had 1000ft/sq to remove and install Saltillo tile, And shower. We are extremely happy with the results and would not hesitate to recommend Caldera’s Tile for any tile work. Bob Hurtado"

Customers say: Terrific value

"Gabriel was professional. He explained all steps of process. He put plastic up to keep dust to a minimum, removed tile, old baseboards, and carpet. He installed the flooring with transitions and new baseboards which he stained to match the wall paneling. Once installation was completed, he cleaned everything and hauled the trash away. I was appreciative of his work ethic and the quality of his work. I highly recommend."

Customers say: True professional

"Javier, the owner was quick to respond to my project request and very respectful. He and his crew did a great job preparing a damaged wall and installing a tile kitchen backsplash as well as installing an outside vent for our range hood. It's rare these days to find someone so reliable, knowledgeable and responsive. You won't be sorry hiring Javier."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.

The number of boxes of tile you need depends entirely on the amount of tile in each box or case. Different manufacturers package their tiles differently, and boxes contain different amounts of tile depending on the size, shape, and material. Often, the amount of area that a case will cover is listed in the product description. To calculate the number of boxes you need, take the total square feet of the space and divide it by the number of square feet the box will cover.
