Adding vinegar to your lawn increases the acidity of the area, which can kill quack grass present above the ground. However, putting vinegar in your yard will also kill the grass. Unfortunately, the below-ground quack grass rhizomes remain very much alive in the presence of vinegar and will soon sprout again.

Vinegar is known to be a contact herbicide, which means it kills the foliage it comes in contact with. Because of the high acetic acid concentration, horticultural vinegar kills weeds and grass more effectively. However, keep in mind that high amounts and multiple applications can affect the soil by lowering the pH levels.

Burning is not a recommended method for controlling foxtail grasses. In a large pasture scenario, the fire moves too quickly through the weeds to effectively burn and kill the seeds, meaning they will resprout eventually. If your lawn is overrun with foxtails, it’s best to consult a lawn care professional for suggestions on how to permanently remove it from your property.

Purchase a selective herbicide that targets clover and similar weeds but doesn't take out your grass. You can also keep it from growing with corn meal gluten or remove clover from your lawn manually at the start of the season as part of your lawn maintenance checklist.
