"JJ provided a detailed description of work needed to remove and replace my 20 yr old rusted cooler, complete with photos and an itemized list of labor and parts. Gerrod and James arrived within the time parameter, introduced themselves and got to work. They did need to go get a larger unit and within 4 hours my new cooler was up and cooling my house. What I paid was exactly what was estimated. I received photos of every step of the installation."

"Pepe is wonderful! He's friendly, fair, honest, and reliable. Performs excellent quality work for a reasonable price, and provides free estimates and diagnostics! That alone will save you $375 - what most other plumbing companies around Santa Fe charge. He replaced my old, broken combi boiler in a timely, efficient manner, and was a pleasure to work with. He'll definitely be my go-to for all plumbing and HVAC repairs in the future."

"Another plumber had recommended replacing the boiler for an estimated material and labor cost of over $7000.
Tony (the lead man at Universal Plumbing) inspected the boiler unit and instead recommended a thorough cleaning and replacement of one or two zone valves.
The work team arrived as scheduled, performed the cleaning, zone valve replacement, water heater draining and radiant heating system purge. The workers were very professional, explaining what they were doing, answering all my questions. They left the mechanical room clean and neat, their work appears very professional. They also installed a 4-zone monitoring device (for the zone valves) that makes it easy to keep track of which zones are calling for hot water and which ones are getting it.
The work included purging the air from the radiant heating system. This caused the slab to cool down. External temperatures were below freezing, and the radiant heating system seemed to be regaining heat inconsistently across zones. Tony and his crew returned several times to purge the system a second time, adjust the thermostats, take temperature readings on floor surfaces, and in general, stick with us until everything was running correctly.
For me, trust is key. When I pay a contractor, I need to trust that he will stay on task until it is right. Tony and his crew earned my trust on this job and I will use Universal Plumbing again to move gas and water lines as part of a major kitchen renovation. The fact that Universal found boiler replacement unnecessary saved me thousands.
I recommend Universal Plumbing wholeheartedly.

"The salesman who came out was very polite and respectful, and answered all of my questions. He was the third company I had come out. He was willing to talk at length about my needs/limitations and what worked for me. I expected his estimate to be more expensive, because he was the only company that offered to install Carrier (they are the official carrier dealers), rather than a less expensive option. Another reason I chose them was because they are NATE certified.  However, their estimate was slightly below the others.
The installation was performed on time, in less than a day, by technicians who were equally polite, respectful, and happy to answer my questions. They were able to adapt to a slight change in the installation (due to my husband fixating on the height of the new damper). There was a little confusion about the new thermostat, but they returned to fix that within a few days (they probably would have returned sooner but I told them not to rush, since it was a pretty minor issue and it was the height of the fall rush for them.)
The office staff, whom I called and emailed  couple times, was likewise polite, responsive and prompt to see my needs were met.
They kindly offered to take a look at my mother's furnace (she lives in an addition to my house) and cleaned it out. I was expecting an addition to the bill for that, but was very pleasantly surprised that no additional fee was added.

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

The best time of year to purchase or replace an HVAC system, including components like an air conditioner or furnace, is during the off-season—spring and fall. During these periods, HVAC professionals are less busy than in summer and winter, when extreme temperatures create urgent demand. Shopping during the off-season can lead to savings of 10% to 15% on an AC unit and allows you more time to find the best deal and other cost-saving incentives. Typically, air conditioning units go on sale in the fall after demand drops, while furnace prices tend to decrease in the spring.

Boiler installations and replacements cost between $3,600 to $8,400. Expect to pay around $5,900 on average for a new boiler, including installation. Adding new radiators or heaters to the boiler may include separate costs if you are also upgrading those components, so the final price may be higher. To decrease costs, you can look for local energy rebates for using a boiler and wait until installers are offering discounts for a first-time installation.

Common problems include leaks, low pressure, and inefficient heating. Regular maintenance prevents many issues.

Scale from hard water is hard to diagnose until it starts causing problems. If your area has particularly hard water, that’s most likely what your boiler is using. If scale build-up becomes a problem, it starts to cause decreased flow and heating, and eventually, valve failures as valves become blocked. Let boiler professionals know if you’re worried about scale and they can offer advice or implement a solution.

A home radiator works by using radiation and convection to transfer heat throughout your home. Electric radiators use metal to conduct heat and warm the air, which then rises to warm the room. Steam and hot water radiators work with a boiler and piping system to pump thermal energy throughout the home. Hot water radiators use a boiler to heat the water before circulating it to the radiator, while steam heating radiator systems convert the heated water to steam before circulating it out. When the water or steam cools, it travels back to the boiler to be heated again.
