"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"The worker was punctual and we first looked over the fence together and decided which pickets needed replacing.  Then we went to Home Depot and selected the newpickets together.  Then returned and he went to work and worked through the day until 8pm to complete the job.  The workman was professional and worked hard.  I had him return for a separate charge to haul away the old pickets.

"This is a beautiful home.  Joe has been a pleasure to work with.   This is the second project we have worked with Joe.  He built a garage for us several years ago, so we asked him to bid on this new home.
Joe subcontracted to a great flooring company and a wonderful granite company and a fabulous cabinet maker.  He and his crew did the framing, slab, roofing, drywall, and most of the work.  Joe is on the job site most days and believes in doing the job right.  The biggest problem we had with this project was that the cultured marble subcontractor was not responsive and was slow and not interested in finishing the marble or doing the job right.  I doubt Joe will use this marble complany again.
Joe doesn't mind having the homeowner around.  My husband walked around the site every evening and if he had any questions, Joe was always responsive and willing to answer questions and explain why things were being done the way they were.
Joe's crew is pleasant to be around.  This home is being built for my in-laws and is next door to my home, so I spent a lot of time around the crew and got to know them.
Our one thing that we feel could be improved is that Joe needs to write more detailed contracts.  It avoids any mis-understandings when changes need to be made or when lighting or other fixtures are being picked out.  We haven't had any problems, but the potential exists without detailed contracts.  Joe is a man of honor and integrity and is one of the few that still works on his word and a hand shake.
Over the past 6 - 8 months of bidding, contract and building we have gotten to know Joe and would highly reccomend him to others for home building or remodeling.

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

Keep children and pets entirely away from active home building zones. Install temporary fencing to block both your family and local wildlife from entering the site. Cover deep foundation trenches immediately to prevent dangerous falls. Since NM experiences elevated radon levels, test your soil before opening the foundation. During the winter months in Cloudcroft, establish strict exclusion zones around icy scaffolding and materials to prevent severe slip-and-fall injuries.

Helpful?

Older log cabins and post-and-beam structures complicate home building because they require specialized structural modifications. Inspect your property for steep topography, as hillside additions demand complex load transfers and retaining walls. Identify central masonry fireplaces or load-bearing wood stoves, as these elements restrict interior layout changes. You also need to check for active foundation movement caused by the intense freeze-thaw cycles common in the high-altitude NM climate.

Helpful?

When reviewing quotes for home building, watch out for unlicensed contractors or professionals who claim permits are unnecessary for structural work. Since Cloudcroft experiences heavy snowfall, reject bids that ignore snow load engineering or the required 36-inch frost depth. You also need to confirm that quotes address wildfire defensible space and septic setbacks. Always ask contractors to disclose their subcontractors to ensure everyone working on your NM property holds proper credentials.

Helpful?

Before starting home building, gather your existing permit history and a current lot survey. Record your exact septic system location and document your private well depth and water rights. Because Cloudcroft has steep slopes and rocky soils, note any known drainage issues or previous grading work. You must also check your subdivision covenants and verify your wildfire hazard zone designation to ensure your project complies with all NM safety standards.

Helpful?

Assess your foundation and roof structure first. Homes with foundations engineered for the required 36-inch frost depth are excellent candidates for home building. Evaluate your existing roof to guarantee it supports heavy Cloudcroft snow loads before planning vertical additions. Check your property setbacks, especially if your lot borders the national forest. Properties connected to municipal utilities handle expansions much better than older cabins relying solely on limited private wells and septic systems.
