"Jerry installed new shelving in a bedroom closet for me. He did an outstanding job. Jerry also kept in touch with me to confirm the date he was doing the work, reviewing his notes with me for accuracy and for purchasing materials. He was efficient and came on the day/time that we agreed to. Great experience working with Jerry!"

"Really terrific in every way. Took care of building a wall and moving my kitchen cabinets to accomodate a larger fridge. Honest, great work and very nice people. Thank you!"

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"I am without a doubt certain that we got the best quality closet we could have gotten. I would use them again for that reason they were awesome.  In the end the product was installed beautifully but they had an issue. It was unbelievable quality. They were creative. We needed six closet to be built. They did revisions on two occasions. They were exceptional. The only problem was the installation where the machine broke and it took about a month to be installed."

"I could not do the work myself and struggled to find someone to help me. I found Brian here on Angie's List. He stopped by to look at the closets and we scheduled time for him to come out and do the work. He was on time and professional. Best of all he was patient with me and allowed me to go through a lot of items individually while I said keep, donate & he helped me find an old Fendi handbag that kind of got lost over the years. He filled up the truck and I followed him to Salvation Army where I got a receipt for over 30 bags of clothes, shoes, cookbooks etc. I will definitely hire Brian again and would recommend him if you simply need to de-clutter and and have less stress in your life. Yes, having 4 empty closets is a good feeling & knowing all those snow boots, winter coats, dresses, etc are going to someone who needs them instead of sitting in my closet is a good feeling too. Thank you Brian. I will be calling you again."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Yes, adding a built-in or custom closet generally increases your home's value and makes it more attractive to potential buyers. A well-designed closet adds utility, organization, and a touch of luxury, which are appealing selling points. Most homeowners see a return on investment (ROI) of 50% to 60%; for example, a custom closet can add about $1,000 to your home's value on average. The specific ROI depends on the type, with custom walk-in closets typically providing more value than reach-in closets. However, to maximize value, ensure the closet doesn't significantly detract from the room's usable square footage. Converting an entire room into a closet can actually lower your home's value. Similarly, using overly lavish materials may not recoup their cost. A good strategy is to add a closet that takes square footage from a non-living area, such as a garage, to create a mudroom closet.

You can turn an adjacent room into a walking closet by just rearranging the room. This means removing the furniture and adding racks and an island in the center if you have that in your budget. Houses with two bedrooms connected to each other are great options for large walk-in closets that don't require any structural changes or much building whatsoever.

When you are securing your DIY home office built-ins to the wall, you should start by locating the wall studs. You'll then want to use long screws to attach the cabinets, shelves, and bookcases directly to the wall studs. Your built-ins will be far too heavy to attach to the drywall alone by using anchors.

The differences between a built-in closet and a walk-in aren’t that different from a built-in wardrobe and a walk-in closet. It’s fairly simple—a walk-in closet is a closet you can physically enter, stand in, and walk around in. A built-in (whether wardrobe or closet) is more akin to covered shelves installed into a recess in the wall. Another big difference is walk-in closets almost always have traditional full-size doors, while built-ins either have no doors or use sliding doors.

Costs depend on material type, size, and additional features like lighting or sliding doors.
