"Called to get an estimate for a new driveway. Sonny had plenty of information on the job I needed done and about the company and their experience. The team that replaced my driveway did a great job very professional and great value. Would definitely recommend giving them a call for driveway work."

"We had a specific vision to completely transform our property in Teaneck, and Mach Paving executed it perfectly. We wanted to move our entire driveway to the left side of the house to allow for a much longer, more functional space, and they made the process seamless. They handled everything—from pulling the necessary permits to the actual construction. The project included the new asphalt driveway with Belgium block curbing, a beautiful new paver walkway to the front entrance, and custom stairs for our side entrance. The team was incredibly punctual, communicative, and just easy to work with from start to finish. It is rare to find a contractor that is this reliable and attentive to detail. Our home has so much more curb appeal now. I cannot recommend them enough! Including before and after pictures!"

"It went great. He ripped up the old driveway and did not disturb the block that was lining the driveway. He did a clean job. He laid seed for grass around the trim and it came out very clean and nice looking. The guy that did the install was a really nice guy."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

If you notice minor cosmetic problems with your driveway, you should seal it. Look out for cracks and holes on the surface, faded asphalt or concrete, and stains from oil and other chemicals. Replacing your driveway may be necessary if you’re dealing with significant problems—¼-inch cracks, large potholes, and puddles from drainage issues. The cost to install an asphalt driveway typically ranges between $4,200 and $9,000, significantly more than resealing. Consider talking to a professional to discuss whether resurfacing your driveway—a midway project between resealing and replacing—is a better option for you.

An asphalt driveway should be at least 3 inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Areas with poor drainage should have a thicker stone base. To install a new asphalt driveway over an existing driveway, the new asphalt should be at least 2 inches thick and the existing driveway should be in relatively good condition.

A driveway approach is the part of a driveway where the public road meets the private driveway. This section contains several key elements, including the driveway apron, the curb cut, and the end slope. Depending on the slope of the driveway, this area may also contain the trench drain.

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

Recycled asphalt is not better than gravel, but can be a good alternative. It is inexpensive, but not as low-cost as gravel, and doesn’t tend to last as long. Recycled asphalt isn’t as dusty as gravel and is more environmentally friendly. The black look can be something that homeowners prefer. No matter what, ensure you choose an experienced recycled asphalt contractor.
