"Very responsive and attentive company. The initial request was for chimney work, but we eventually agreed to do some gutter cleaning and guarding as well. Eric was quick on-site and his quote was quite competitive. I would certainly recommend Profine Construction."

"I had a great experience with Black Rock Exteriors, LLC. They were professional, honest, and really took the time to make sure the job was done right. The quality of the work was excellent, and they treated my home with care as if it were their own. It’s hard to find reliable contractors, but I’d definitely recommend them to anyone needing roofing or masonry work. They repaired my asphalt shingle roof, and it looks fantastic."

"Mike was great. I got two spots in my backyard that I wanted patio pavers, around one side of the pool and underneath my second floor deck. By the pool was approx. 250sqft with a walkway and below the deck 256sqft as well. Along with 3ft x 15ft concrete patch. I needed this project competed before the weekend and him and his crew was able to get the job in three days. Both patios look great and my wife can finally see my vision and she loves it as well."

"Had a great experience with Established Construction when I needed to have my front masonry steps rebuilt and new railings installed. Got a great price quote from Val on a Thursday, awarded the contract on Friday and work was performed a little over a week later. The rebuild was completed in one day and the railings were installed the following week. The work was professionally done and the new steps and railings look great. I was also pleased that everything was cleaned up and the scrap bricks and railings were hauled away. I would highly recommend Established Construction for any kind of work that is needed around your property."

"Mark was a very reputable businessman and he and his son did a great job. The area they delivered and spread stone looks really good and it is very level overall. I would definitely hire them to do another job for us."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

The best color to paint a brick fireplace comes down to personal taste. However, neutral colors—like white or gray—will open the space and create a bright modern look, making them popular options. However, choosing a bold color can turn your fireplace into a feature piece that will be the talk of all family gatherings.

Yes, it is normal to see some minor hairline cracks in brick or mortar over time, often due to natural foundation settling. However, not all cracks are harmless. You should be concerned and contact a masonry professional for an inspection if you notice cracks that are getting wider or longer, or if new ones keep appearing. Other serious warning signs that can indicate significant structural or foundation damage include large vertical cracks (especially those that widen as they go up), stair-step cracks, L-shaped cracks, and deep horizontal cracks. Factors like temperature changes, moisture, and structural loading can also cause cracks to form or worsen.

Yes, limewash on brick can accumulate dust over time. Its porous nature can attract dust particles, especially in environments with high levels of dust or dirt. Additionally, if the limewash surface is left unsealed, it may be more prone to collecting dust. Additionally, incorrectly applied limewash will generate dust. Causes include applying it too thickly instead of thin layers and not allowing enough drying time between layers. Regular maintenance, such as gentle cleaning or dusting, can help mitigate dusty issues.

You should worry about brick wall cracks when they are wide and growing, or in a horizontal or stair-step pattern. Additionally, they may be accompanied by other signs of structural stress. In these cases, a foundation specialist should inspect your home.
