Small jobs welcome

"Fabiano replaced the trim on my front door and other general home repairs. He is kind and respectful and very knowledgeable about contracting and using materials that are long lasting. His pricing is fair and the job is well done! Here are some before and after photos of my door!"

"I had a really great experience with this company. I really like the way Robert communicated with me. He was punctual and diagnosed the issue and helped me come up with a plan to fix it at the lowest cost possible. I would definitely use his services in the future and highly recommend him!"

"RS O'Brien gutted and remodeled our Master bathroom. It looks wonderful! They also put in our laminte floating floors throughout the main part of our house. They look perfect! The biggies job was finishing out 900sqft basement. Sean worked with us to get the design and layout we wanted. Helped with ideas when we were stuck or over thinking. The work was done in a timely manner and with little mistakes. If we find anything after the work was done that needed to be fixed or changed Sean was very willing to have it done or come do it himself. We will be hiring RS O'Brian to put in our deck this spring!"

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.

Wood decks need to be replaced every 10 to 15 years on average. Natural wood is highly vulnerable to infiltration and damage from moisture, which can occur rapidly due to exposure to outdoor elements. You can protect your deck and maximize its lifespan by sealing it every year or two.

Space deck handrail posts four to six feet apart. If the posts are more than six feet apart, the railing will be less able to withstand lateral forces and is more susceptible to breaking. Additionally, railing posts that are more than six feet apart may not be up to code, and you may face fines and be required to reinstall the posts to bring them up to code.
