"A&T Tree Service did an outstanding job cutting down a large Black Oak tree for us. They were very professional and extra helpful in removing old pieces of a White Ash tree we had cut down in 2019 that were sitting in our backyard waiting for neighbors to take for free. They even came back on 9 June to grind the stump, plus the White Ash stump, and a large Oak stump in our front yard. It was a great value for a lot of work. I highly recommend them."

"I was very please with Mastership tree service- came today done in a flash taking away a fallen dead tree. He was very knowledgeable about trees when he came to see the job I called for and that impressed me. Alex keeps his promise by texting or phone and offered a very very affordable price . will defiantly use his service again."

"Their work is clean and fast. The tree trimming they did made my front yard more appealing for people walking by. The workers were also very kind people. I would definitely call New Jersey Tree Professionals again for their services and their warm kindness they bring to my property."

"This is my second time with this tree company. For some reason didn't find them in Angie's list, but fortunately found their phone number in my phonebook (saved the last time). The estimate was a little bit cheaper comparing to others (I used 4 companies to get a truly transparent picture of what needs to be done and prevent upselling). Surprisingly to me, none of the companies tried to upsell; their recommendations were the same (up to some extend). At the end, decided to go with BJ's, mostly because of the prior positive experience. The work was done next business day after my call (they even offered same day services, but I was unable to accommodate). The work was done in less than 2 hours! Everything was cleaned after. I will definitely call BJ's next time when I need tree services. Highly recommend!"

"Words can not describe how happy I am to have chosen Squirrels as my tree service ..I had 4 HUGE trees def over 100ft tall and weighing over 10k lbs ..the 4 man crew worked from early morning to late afternoon ..some trees were in between electrical wires cable and literally hanging over my roof (which was the main reason I had them cut bc of winter storms approaching)) they worked continuously…and all had to be cut manually bc there was no access to any of my trees bc of the incline my house is situated on ..therefore no cranes could be used ..they cut manually and lugged everything manually down the inclined driveway ..2 days of hard work and always being so polite and attentive ! After all was said and done they cleaned all the debris too ! I highly recommend them and will be using them for one big oak tree this upcoming spring ..they were the best and so reasonably priced ! Highly recommend!"

"Winter nor'easters brought down two trees on my house -- the second a massive pin oak that damaged the roof. Mauricio Fallas of Amazing Tree Services came back -- with a crane and crew -- two weeks in a row to remove the trees. He worked quickly in order to permit an insurance inspection and roof replacement. Mauricio is an experienced pro and a nice guy, too. He's got my tree work for life -- although I hope any future tree that falls, falls in the woods!"

"Very professional company right from the arborist that visited to start the quoting process, he left me with the confidence that they were only ones well qualified not like others. The quote arrived by return and explained the work to be carried out and again was the only one to meet ansi tree pruning standards. My work was scheduled and the well maintained equipment and crew arrived on the day promised. They asked what were my expectations and carried out their work very respectful of my property and my neighbors when they had completed the work I was asked if it met my expectations and it exceeded them. When they left apart from a great look tree there was nothing to show that they had been there no tree litter no saw dust. I highly recommend this qualified professional company."

"A tree fell during a storm on 9/12 and was blocking the street in front of my house. I reached NJTS first thing in the morning.  Rich visited approximately an hour and a half after my call, gave me a reasonable estimate to remove the fallen tree (part of which was still standing), and gave me another quote for trimming other trees while the crew was here. I accepted and the crew came after another hour and a half and worked through the afternoon (approximately five hours, including a lunch break). They seemed good at their work and were efficient and cleaned up well after themselves. They were also careful during the removal of the branches to avoid hurting the bamboo that the branches fell on (something I asked Rich to ask the crew). The company website states that the company accepts credit cards, but Rich failed to tell me that if I used one to pay, I would be charged an additional 3%.  The website does not state that fact either. I was only told that fact when I called the office in order to pay the bill.  That is my main complaint about the service, otherwise I would recommend this company.

"Extremely professional and courteous. Excellent clean up. Tom and his team climbed the trees , carefully and safely cut the tree into many pieces so as not to damage the house and electrical wires. They removed existed fallen debris without any additional cost. I will highly recommend this company. In fact, my neighbors pleased with his job already hired him."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Signs include dead branches, growth over structures, diseases, pests, or roots impacting hardscapes.

Ivy eventually kills trees by restricting its growth, blocking sunlight, absorbing nutrients and water from the soil, and weakening the tree. Trees with ivy are more likely to experience diseases, pests, rot, and fungi growth. When ivy weighs down tree branches, the tree is more likely to break during a storm and cause damage.

The fastest ways to remove a tree stump are by grinding it or burning it.

Stump grinding is often the quickest method, with professionals able to chip away a stump and its roots within a single session. You have the option to hire a professional stump removal service or rent a stump grinder to do it yourself. However, it's important to note that these machines can be large, difficult to transport, and dangerous to operate without prior experience. For safety reasons, hiring a local arborist or landscape specialist is often recommended.

Burning is another fast option. Before you begin, check your local burn laws. The process involves drilling holes into the stump, filling them with vegetable oil, and waiting 24 to 48 hours. Afterward, you can add charcoal bricks to the surface and light the fire, which must be attended at all times.

For a more affordable but much slower alternative, you can use potassium nitrate pellets to accelerate the natural decomposition process. This method typically takes four to six months.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

While it’s best to have access to large, healthy, strong trees in a safe position, treehouse living is still possible without them. Contractors can fit tree posts to build the structure onto or use posts as additional support alongside the trees themselves. If you’re in doubt about the suitability of the trees on your land, consult with a local treehouse builder before you start the project.
