"A&T Tree Service did an outstanding job cutting down a large Black Oak tree for us. They were very professional and extra helpful in removing old pieces of a White Ash tree we had cut down in 2019 that were sitting in our backyard waiting for neighbors to take for free. They even came back on 9 June to grind the stump, plus the White Ash stump, and a large Oak stump in our front yard. It was a great value for a lot of work. I highly recommend them."

"Alex and his crew were awesome. Alex showed up when promised to quote the job. I needed lots of large maple trees and a smaller dogwood trimmed and a couple of smaller trees removed completely. He made excellent suggestions and provided a reasonable written estimate and a timetable to get the job done. He completed the job when promised at the quoted price. His crew was very professional and efficient and neat. It was not an easy project but they made it look easy. I highly recommend Mastership Tree Service for your next trimming/removal project."

"Excellent!! They were the most professional service I have ever had. They saw I had a sprinkler system without me telling them and took the necessary precautions not to run the truck over the sprinkler heads. I had spring flowers that had started emerging and they took special care not to drop branches on them. They cleaned up so well, the yard was left in better condition than before they started. I would highly recommend them to anyone anytime. Their pricing came in lower than the other 2 estimates i received.."

"We had a tree come down in a storm a couple of years back, I'ma be honest it's been a little while. That was 2 or 3 years ago. They did a phenomenal job. They cleaned up, almost cleaned up too well. We wanted them to leave more granite for the fireplace and stuff like that I had to tell them "Wait, don't shred them all" but they were very kind about setting things aside, dusting main pieces of wood that we wanted to keep for our fireplace and getting rid of everything else. They tidied up beautifully. They worked very fast. I don't know how many helpers they had, but they were really quick. It was a part of a tree that a lightning bolt took off the top, almost half. The tree forked about 20 ft above the ground and the lightning took off one of the two halves of the tree. Unfortunately, a little bit of it hit the roof of the house and punched a hole about the size of your fist into and got that patched up. The people did a phenomenal job getting what was on the lawn of the lawn. They showed up on time, right away. They were top notch."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

You can remove a small tree from your yard if there’s space for the tree to fall, you have the right tools and safety equipment, and you follow a clear plan of action. You’ll just want to follow the steps above carefully, and ideally, you will have experience doing similar tasks. If you have any doubts that you can do this project safely, though, you should hire a pro.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

The cost of trees varies massively based on the size of the tree and the species. A small Colorado spruce can cost as little as $30, but a golden rain tree of the same size can cost $90. Large trees can cost $1,500 or more, depending on their species and height.
