"From start to finish Garden State Paving were great to work with. They were the most responsive of all the contractors I contacted with the friendliest customer service, reasonable prices, and prompt & professional work. "Prior to these guys saving our property, we foolishly hired an under-qualified contractor to install a large patio and retaining wall system. It turned out to be a never ending nightmare from the start that left us with pooling water everywhere, mud leaking thru walls and stairs that were falling apart. We hired Classical Pavers to hopefully resolve all our issues, and boy did they deliver. These guys are true landscape engineers! They uprooted the previously installed pavers, flawlessly re-pitched and graded the base, planned for all the possible drainige issues that might come up, and completely cleaned the pavers and property of any remnants of their work. I could not be happier with the professionalism of every level of their services. I would absolutely recommend them, and only use them for any and all future projects."

"Mark the owner came to do the estimate. He supervised & worked through the whole job. This was a substantial parking lot and he completed the work quickly. Three things where performed: Paving of the full lot, another separate section sealed and parking lines painted. It was all done impeccably. I would recommend hiring Mark s paving knowing with full confidence that person would be very satisfied."

"Angelo is great and is willing to go above and beyond your expectations to give you a great look and experience with the contracting job. He is a responsive contractor and if he misses you, he will follow up right away before the job gets started to make sure that all the plans are set. He is present and constantly checking in with the clients and the contracting crew to make sure things are going as scheduled. When the work is completed making sure that everything was to my liking. everything is going well. His team works very well and are focused on the details. They made sure to get all the right materials for the job, to the right of flooring and grout for my shower, to the best kind of paint and the color scheme that works best in a finished basement During a painting job when I asked what works best from a contractors view Angelo gave me a suggestion that made the rooms look even better than I thought it would. He is always working to give you best outcome for any job he takes on. I highly recommend Charles Renovations for any contracting work. Angelo and his team are exceptional!"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Grass pavers are suitable for heavy foot or vehicle traffic, but they’re not as resistant as concrete or asphalt pavers.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

The stones do not work well on uneven ground. If the stones are not buried into the ground and made level upon installation, they almost certainly will shift or crack on uneven ground. Additionally, rainwater or water from sprinklers can run under the edge of an uneven paver, causing erosion. In a freeze and thaw cycle, trapped water under the paver can cause the problem to worsen by shifting the stepping stones around. Use a bubble level to make sure the ground under each paver is as even as possible, even if the nearby ground is uneven.

Yes, but it's best to kill off the grass with solarization and remove the dead plant matter before laying down the pavers. This helps limit the chance of your pavers shifting as the dead plant matter decomposes.

While water-related pressure caused by poor drainage is one common cause of paver cracking, other factors can include ground movement beneath pavers, heavy loads and wear and tear over the pavers, and climates with constant freeze-thaw cycles. In general, pavers should be resealed every three to five years to prevent cracking.
