"I had Divine concrete do a pad for a shed last year, and they did a great job. So, I wanted a sidewalk put in next to my pool this year, along with a strip to go under my vinyl fence, and immediately called them. Big mistake. Dennis came and put in the sidewalk (which has hills and valleys) and I told him that I want the strip to go UNDER the fence, so that I could hose off the patio and the water would run out. From the pool side, it looks like the cement doesn't come up too high, but he piled the cement up on the other side, making a barrier for the entire length. He also didn't finish the job, but promised me he would be back in a few days and correct any issues. Since then, he will not answer my repeated calls or texts. Before you consider hiring them, keep in mind, that if they mess up, they won't fix it, they will just ghost you. I told them exactly what I needed done, and they failed miserably. Not reliable, not professional, not worth the price whatever they charge. Do yourself a favor, and DON’T EVEN CONSIDER HIRING THEM!"

Mortar, or masonry mortar, is mainly used in joints and as parging for stone, brick, or cement construction. Stucco is primarily a surface material used as wall coverings. The best tool for drilling into brick or mortar is a rotary hammer drill which is a large hammer drill with low rotation speed and high torque. Regular drills with a hammer function are also excellent tools for drilling into brick when the diameter of the hole is 1/2 inch or less. It might be possible to drill into brick with a standard drill if you’re only drilling a very small hole, but note that masonry work will put a lot of wear on a standard drill, and the tool may not be strong enough to get through brick.

Painting brick is porous, meaning it’s full of tiny holes that can soak up moisture. Those holes also allow it to dry, though. So, when you paint it, you trap any moisture inside, providing an opportunity for mold, mildew, and water damage.

Paint also shows wear faster than naked brick. This means that once you paint a brick surface, you’ll have to keep painting it to maintain a clean look. A paint job is also harder to undo on brick because of its porous nature. Once you paint it, it’s hard to go back without some serious power washing—another added cost.

Stone can last anywhere from 15 to 100 years before it needs to be restored. You should clean your stone flooring or countertops regularly using cleaners designed for stone surfaces. Stay on top of vacuuming to prevent scratches from deteriorating stone faster, deep clean your stone surfaces using a pH-neutral cleaning solution at least once a year, and reseal the stone every one to five years, depending on foot traffic or usage.

You should worry about brick wall cracks when they are wide and growing, or in a horizontal or stair-step pattern. Additionally, they may be accompanied by other signs of structural stress. In these cases, a foundation specialist should inspect your home.
