Further, I completely appreciated Greg’s solution-driven approach, without compromising quality with regards to the stucco project on my home. "Empa is an exceptional business! I had cracked stucco on the front my 4500 sq.ft. house. This let water get behind the stucco and caused rot in some of the plywood and wall studs. Quite a serious and destructive problem. Jehu (the company principal) was able to localize the problem areas and his crew replaced the affected plywood and studs. His crew then applied new stucco and color finishes, so the house looked brand new. In my experience Jehu is a man of his word, and his crew are top level technicians. They work harmoniously as a team and I heartily recommend Empa services to anyone."

"Pat came right on time, did an excellent job repairing a pretty messed up plaster ceiling! It looks like a new room! He is professional, knows his business and did more than I expected. I highly recommend him for any type if plaster work, not cheap but great value for the money."

"I had my roof repaired by Red Fox and I’m really happy with the results. Mike and the team was on time, professional, and explained everything clearly. They finished the job quickly and the place was sparkly clean afterwards. My roof looks great, no more leaks. I would highly recommend them and I would hire them again. Thank you for your service."

Stucco FAQs, answered by experts

You should aim to let stucco dry for at least 48 hours before it rains. While misting new stucco and keeping it moderately moist is important for strength and longevity, uncontrolled exposure to rain can lead to weak stucco that doesn’t bond properly. Rain can also affect the stucco finish and the color unevenly, leaving you with less appealing siding.

Most homeowners can remain in their homes during stucco removal, but expect noise, dust, and limited access to certain areas. For extensive projects or if hazardous materials are present, temporary relocation may be recommended for safety and comfort. Before removal begins, seal off the work areas and use air purifiers to minimize the spread of dust.

If your windows are losing efficiency from wearing out or experiencing leaks on rainy days, it may be time to consider replacing them. Window replacement costs run between $180 and $410 per window but may be on the higher end for homes with stucco siding since stucco will likely require more time and special tools for replacement.

Masonry screws are the best option to be used on stucco. They’re thicker and made to penetrate harder surfaces like concrete and cinder blocks. Fluted masonry screws work the best because they create a stronger grasp thanks to the lines on their shafts. If you’re working on exterior stucco, use galvanized screws to prevent corrosion.

If it is applied properly, stucco is a durable material that can last between 50 and 80 years, especially with regular repair and maintenance. Things like painting the stucco every 10 years or so will help it last longer. The location of your home plays a big part in the life span of your stucco, too.
