"Ira was cordial and professional. He has practical experience and knowledge of residential energy audits. He was able to provide useful suggestions but not definitive solutions to issues. That may have been due to inaccessible interior walls. I am frustrated that a full written report that had been promised still has not been produced six weeks later."

"

Eco Green Solutions were great to deal with.  They came to the home for an initial consultation and provided me with great solutions for the heat loss problem I had in the home.  The salesperson provided me a clean understandable proposal with different options I could choose from depending on my budget.

When we agreed upon the scope their office scheduled an appointment with me to schedule the work.  Their crew showed up on time, wore booties on their feet to keep my floors as clean as possible and did a remarkable job patching and priming the walls for painting.  I wasn't home when the work was performed, but the painting contractor I had in the home at the same time commented on how professional they were and how they made his job so much easier.

As a homeowner, heating and cooling cost are real concerns.  I highly recommend anyone considered with those things like I am to have Eco Green Solutions do an energy audit of their home and see where they can save.

"After I called for an estimate, Joey came promptly and assessed our insulation needs. He took his time to explain everything and also gave valuable energy savings tips. We scheduled a date and he and his crew arrived on time and insulated our attic. Within a couple of hours they were done with a thorough clean up."

"The folks from Weather Busters came out to my house a few times to understand the problem and even tried some temporary fixes. Eventually they helped reduce the noise by putting some foam padding along the basement pipes but it did not eliminate the noise. They were very friendly, very courteous, and genuinely nice guys. They said they would send a proposal for getting the noise fixed permanently as well as a proposal to replace our old furnace. After investing all of this time and energy you would think that they would be super responsive when it came time to sign me on as a client. Not So. I had to chase after them several times before I got a proposal in the mail. When it finally arrived, it was only a proposal for replacing the furnace. This was not my big concern and I had only agreed to see this proposal as a consideration for a later time. My urgent request was to fix the noise so that my 3 month old baby and recovering wife could sleep better. I chased after them again for a proposal to fix the noise but nothing was sent. To this day I never heard back on this proposal. I was fully ready to give them the business based on their wonderful service but they lost my business by not closing the deal and getting me the proposal I needed. After chasing them for a month I ended up going with another company who came out and fixed the problem all within the same week. Sorry Weather Busters but you lost a potential client for life. "

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

You can increase your home’s load factor by replacing fuse boxes with a circuit breaker, hiring a licensed electrician to upgrade your electrical panel, upgrading wiring, or installing subpanels. An electrical inspection by an expert can help determine the state of your current electrical systems and how they can be improved.

It’s not recommended to turn off your breaker box in hopes of saving electricity. Breaker boxes were not designed to constantly be switched on and off. Therefore, turning off breakers unnecessarily can cause costly damage that outnumbers any energy savings. Only flip your breakers if absolutely necessary when troubleshooting an electrical issue.

Energy-efficient windows cost more than other window types, but they can help you save on your monthly energy bills, get you some breaks on your taxes, and even increase the value of your home. According to Michael S. Regan, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, when people invest in green upgrades like energy-efficient windows, they save energy, money, and more.

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.

To determine the right size generator for your house, you should calculate the total wattage of the appliances and devices you want to power during an outage. List all essential items, note their start-up wattages, and add them together.

Here are some typical wattage requirements for common appliances:

  • Refrigerator: 600 watts

  • Large dehumidifier: 700 watts

  • Large window air conditioner: 1,400 watts

  • Water heater: 3,000 to 4,500 watts

  • Electric furnace: 5,000 to 25,000 watts

A 7,500-watt generator might be sufficient for essentials like a refrigerator, freezer, well pump, and lighting circuits. However, for high-demand items like a water heater or furnace, a whole-home generator is a better choice. A portable generator may be enough if you only need to power a few critical items.

While home square footage can offer a rough estimate, it is not always a reliable indicator. For reference, here are some typical generator sizes based on square footage:

  • 1,000 sq ft: 6–9 kW

  • 1,500 sq ft: 7–10 kW

  • 2,000 sq ft: 10–14 kW

  • 2,500 sq ft: 12–16 kW

  • 3,000 sq ft: 16–20 kW+

For the most accurate sizing, consult a professional who can calculate your home's peak and average power consumption and recommend the optimal generator.
