"I was very pleased with the audit which helped to identify needed fixes. As a result, last winter was a much more pleasant experience at home and we used less propane"

"Ira was cordial and professional. He has practical experience and knowledge of residential energy audits. He was able to provide useful suggestions but not definitive solutions to issues. That may have been due to inaccessible interior walls. I am frustrated that a full written report that had been promised still has not been produced six weeks later."

"

Eco Green Solutions were great to deal with.  They came to the home for an initial consultation and provided me with great solutions for the heat loss problem I had in the home.  The salesperson provided me a clean understandable proposal with different options I could choose from depending on my budget.

When we agreed upon the scope their office scheduled an appointment with me to schedule the work.  Their crew showed up on time, wore booties on their feet to keep my floors as clean as possible and did a remarkable job patching and priming the walls for painting.  I wasn't home when the work was performed, but the painting contractor I had in the home at the same time commented on how professional they were and how they made his job so much easier.

As a homeowner, heating and cooling cost are real concerns.  I highly recommend anyone considered with those things like I am to have Eco Green Solutions do an energy audit of their home and see where they can save.

"On the confirmed date, Joey arrived with two of his workers. I couldn't believe that he was actually here!. In my experience, most owners send the workers to perform the job - not Joey. Joey, was with his workers explaining what needed to be done and supervising their work. Joey is a great leader who has surrounded himself with the best! His workers are very knowledgeable, they take pride in their work and are very careful. The work took about three hours and I have to say that I feel such a difference in my house already. The hot days we've had do not feel anywhere near as hot as they felt prior to the insulation. My house feels cool and nice. I can't wait for the winter to feel the real difference! I am very thankful to Joey and his team. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs insulation, energy conservation and advise on saving money on utilities!"

"Person who visited was very polite and noted that what I purchased was likely not something that would meet my expectations.  I wanted an energy audit, how my systems could be improved in home, lighting, heating, insulation and air conditioners.  What I got was a list of things they could work on and the price to do that work.  The work list in no way was considered an energy audit, rather it was a punch list of things I could do based on their visual inspection.  I did not have a comparison of work and benefit/savings calculation.  There was no checklist of inefficiencies and how that translated into energy losses. For example, multiple hi hat lights in house, they spoke about boxing and insulating a few, less than 10, when I have almost 90 in house.  Overall I was disappointed, the tech who came said the offering needed to be better presented prior to start of work."

"Bought the $99 deal and scheduled a service call with Weather Busters.
The service guy came on time and did a check on the boiler. He said the boiler is leaking and he has to shut it down by law. He said he can get a replacement installed within the next few days and quoted us a brand new boiler with service plan for 2 years. The price he quoted was high but it was in the mid of winter and we cannot afford to shop around and went with it. They provided us with some portable heaters the same day which was helpful. They came back 2 days later with the new boiler and the installation was completed and done in 1 day.

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

To determine the right size generator for your house, you should calculate the total wattage of the appliances and devices you want to power during an outage. List all essential items, note their start-up wattages, and add them together.

Here are some typical wattage requirements for common appliances:

  • Refrigerator: 600 watts

  • Large dehumidifier: 700 watts

  • Large window air conditioner: 1,400 watts

  • Water heater: 3,000 to 4,500 watts

  • Electric furnace: 5,000 to 25,000 watts

A 7,500-watt generator might be sufficient for essentials like a refrigerator, freezer, well pump, and lighting circuits. However, for high-demand items like a water heater or furnace, a whole-home generator is a better choice. A portable generator may be enough if you only need to power a few critical items.

While home square footage can offer a rough estimate, it is not always a reliable indicator. For reference, here are some typical generator sizes based on square footage:

  • 1,000 sq ft: 6–9 kW

  • 1,500 sq ft: 7–10 kW

  • 2,000 sq ft: 10–14 kW

  • 2,500 sq ft: 12–16 kW

  • 3,000 sq ft: 16–20 kW+

For the most accurate sizing, consult a professional who can calculate your home's peak and average power consumption and recommend the optimal generator.

Homeowners may qualify for an HVAC tax credit if they install an ENERGY STAR®-certified HVAC system that exceeds the energy efficiency minimum standards:

  • Split-System AC: 16 SEER2

  • Packaged AC: 15.2 SEER2 and 11.5 EER2

  • Ducted Split Heat Pump: 15.2 SEER2, 7.8 HSPF2, and 11.7 EER2

  • Packaged Heat Pump: 15.2 SEER2, 7.2 HSPF2, and 10.6 EER2

  • Mini-Split System: 16 SEER2, 9 HSPF2, and 12 EER2

You can claim up to 30% of the cost of the job, subject to maximums.

You can save money on heating oil through a combination of improving home efficiency and smart purchasing strategies.

Home Efficiency and Usage:

  • Improve Insulation: Ensure your home, especially the basement and attic, is well-insulated and sealed against drafts to prevent heat leakage.

  • Manage Your Thermostat: Use a properly calibrated and programmable thermostat. Lower the temperature by a few degrees, particularly when you are away from home or asleep.

Purchasing Strategies:

  • Buy in the Off-Season: Order heating oil during the summer months when prices are generally at their lowest. This strategy is most effective if you have a large primary tank or a separate storage tank to accommodate bulk deliveries.

  • Consider a Delivery Contract: Some companies offer contracts with a set price for the term. This can lead to savings if market prices for oil increase, but you might pay more if prices drop.

While many states require all new construction to undergo blower door tests, it’s not a requirement for existing homes. But in both cases, a blower test helps confirm that the contractor has sealed the exterior, that the type of ductwork installed is functioning properly, and that your home is as efficient as possible.

If you have central air conditioning, it’s fine to run your AC all day if that’s what you want—as long as the AC unit is in good condition. But if your AC runs constantly when you don’t want it to, there may be a problem with your system (like the ones we’ve mentioned above). Window AC units and wall air conditioners aren’t as powerful as central AC, so you should only run those kinds of air conditioners for eight to 12 hours at a time.
