"I obtained 3 quotes for painting in my house which included removing old wallpaper in one room before painting and included included a bedroom, bath and hallway. Affordable Weaver is truly affordable. Their cost estimate was 40% less than the other 2 quotes. The team of 4 arrived promptly at 7:30 am and finished the job in 1 day. Very neat and clean with no paint drippings on my wood baseboards or floor. The owners are a pleasure to deal with and the painting crew took time to understand what color paint I needed in each room. Highly recommend!"

"Fantastic, smooth. Builder's grade tape had pulled away from the existing drywall leaving cracks and rippling in the drywall. Replaced a section of drywall from a half wall that we damaged. Re-taped, spackled and smoothed to a nice pre-paint finish. Quick and efficient. Kept the area clean. Confirmed the damage was not due to bad roofing. Would use Larry again! He is extremely professional and courteous. A rare contractor in today's world.

"Although he ran late for our initial appointment, when I met Luis to get an estimate for the work involved I was impressed by his thoroughness, product knowledge and his detailed note taking about the job. Previous painters who had come by had been abrupt and lacked the detailed focus. I had made up a pretty detailed questionnaire so I could thoroughly assess each painters input about the job. When I asked Luis about the nail pops showing in some ceiling areas he assured me that they would fix them with 2 screws on either side removing the offending nail. Right answer. I was impressed. He also reviewed the steps taken in prep--plastic over the cabinets, paper covering floors, patching, sanding, priming, taping, chaulking etc. Because I had wallpaper glue issues from a previously poorly done paint job he assured me walls would be sanded, patched and then primed with an oil based primer to seal in the glue. That is what paint experts had recommended. Again I was impressed. The written up estimate detailing the job arrived a few days later via email. We communicated and revised the proposal back and forth until I was pleased that it incorporated all the details of the job including paint brands to be used. Although English is not Luis' first language we communicated fairly well via phone and email. He assured me that at least someone on the job would be able to communicate as well as he. I liked Luis, was impressed by the high ratings on Angie's List and found him to be more respectful and customer satisfaction oriented than other painters I had spoken to for an estimate. He also gave me the best price to do the job, particularly with the Angie's List discount. So I decided to go with his firm of which he is the principal owner. Scheduling the job went pretty smoothly working to accommodate my desire to get the job done in October before the holidays. On the first day two painters arrived more than 2.5 hours later than I had been told to expect them. Only one spoke a reasonable amount of English, the other very little. Both were very nice guys, for the most part diligent workers, with no attitude, but communication would end up being a real problem. They spent the first day prepping the kitchen area and other two rooms. Next 3 days they arrived on time around 9am and worked until about 6pm. They didn't take long lunches or breaks. The job was taking longer than Luis had calculated based on the prep required. My husband and I at the end of each day found issues in their prep--mostly careless patching, sanding or lack of. Their lack of attention to detail was disappointing, but they kept a positive attitude. During the job I received follow-up phone calls and emails from Luis asking for feedback. Twice a "supervisor" stopped by, but I didn't see much value. He first showed up midafternoon on the second day. His English was not good, so my communication with him was poor. I couldn't understand what he was saying to the painters, but it did not seem to me that he was insuring that a protocol of company standards or that the details of our written estimate were being followed. During the last couple days of the job, the painter who was doing the outside painting job spent alot of time on his handheld cell phone apparently having personal conversations while propped up on a ladder. I also discovered that he wasn't waiting the 4 hours between coats required by the manufacturer and had to point it out to him and Luis. Luis had assured me during the estimate that they followed the manufacturer reco. (I had previously experienced this problem with another painter resulting in a poor job.) Although I was home working, I had decided to be mostly hands-off on the job relying on the detailed written proposal to insure that the job was done according to specifications. The only thing I checked on was that they were using the right paint, finish and color for each element to be painted. Big mistake. When the job was done and they had left, the next day I found the remaining paint cans in the garage where I'd asked them to leave them. I discovered that they had used a latex primer rather than the specified oil-based primer on the walls. Then it hit me, I had never heard the power drill going to screw down the areas where there had been nail pops. I couldn't believe it. I was very upset. Took me several days to reach out to Luis with a detailed email expressing my grievances. Luis had told me the day they finished not to pay them, but to take a day or two to check out the work. I was glad I had that leverage. We found some spots bleeding through, a wall area missing it's second coat of paint, places where patches were not sanded enough or primed before painting so their finish was different calling attention to the patch, areas on the kitchen walls were there was still alligatored patches from previous wallpaper glue that was suppose to have been removed, and areas of trim where the paint was reflecting lack of a second coat of paint. I told Luis I wanted him to come by and see the work for himself and discuss the possible remedies. About a week later Luis met with me to review the job. He was very apologetic. For 3 weeks we lived with the main floor of our house in disarray. He brought the same painters with him and they worked through the remedies that day. He offered to completely redo the kitchen with the oil-based primer, but I agreed that fixing the areas pointed out and extending my warranty would suffice. I couldn't go another couple of days. I think Luis needs to provide better training and supervision of his workers. The workers should have gone over the details of the signed proposal with me when they arrived to make it clear they understood the requirements of the job. I also think they need to improve their English and communication skills."

"Great job overall. Had the entire house power washed and painted - aluminum siding and brick. The whole process took a few days but is necessary to do the job right. After power washing, they went over the whole house filling cracks with silicone, covered the windows, pulled back mulch and protected bushes from overspray. The applied two coats with a high quality paint and did a great job cleaning up. Highly recommend!"

"The deal wasn't clear on what it included. He was only going to paint the walls, not the trim or door. He also wouldn't remove any face plates or anything; he wanted me to do the prep work before he came and painted the walls."

"We purchased a 8-hour Angie's list special deal for Frank's Wallcovering Painting Contracting Services as we had some painting work we had been wanting to do ourselves, but never seemed to get to it. Frank stopped by and quickly assessed the situation, explaining how much and what type of paint we should purchase. Before his scheduled work day, we removed the items from the walls and little stuff from around the areas to be painted. Frank arrived on time and quickly got to work moving furniture around and covering everything up. He managed to remove a screw from the wall that we could not budge despite our grandest efforts, and patched several holes in the walls.   We were prepared to pay an additional amount as we had a lot of work to be done and expected it to take longer than the 8 hours included in our special , but he worked quickly and much to our surprise was able to finish everything within the 8 hours.  He not only prepped the walls as needed, but also painted our foyer, large living room/dining room, up the stairway, upstairs hallway, and ceilings. We were happy to have the work done so quickly, and are glad to have found a reliable, no-nonsense painter in Frank.

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Textured or patterned vinyl wallpaper designs are the best option for hiding imperfections. Embossed designs or faux finishes like brick, wood, or linen textures are especially effective at camouflaging dents, cracks, or uneven surfaces. Avoid smooth, shiny finishes, as they can highlight flaws rather than conceal them.

To pair a unique sense of style with white walls, keep them well-decorated. Hang vibrant art or bold furniture to add color to the room. Add some texture and greenery to the space with plants. Choose accent pieces such as throw pillows or light fixtures with patterns. Having a white wall can be a plus as it allows homeowners to easily decorate their homes as they desire without worrying about clashing with the paint color.

You shouldn’t need extra adhesive for peel-and-stick backsplash tile. The adhesive on the back of the tile sheets should do the trick. However, if you experience issues with the tile peeling or falling off, make sure the wall you’re working on isn’t textured, as that can prevent the materials from properly adhering.

The color of the paint, its opacity, and the depth of the texture on the paper all affect how many coats of paint you need to apply to paintable wallpaper. You'll need at least two coats of paint to ensure even coverage. Don’t be surprised if you need to apply three coats if the embossing is very deep or if you use a dark color.

If you need a stronger magnetic surface, or you need to use a different type of paint in the room (like waterproof paint in a damp basement), there are other accessible options. You could fit a steel panel over the wall, try magnetic wallpaper, or apply chalk paint instead.

If you want an inexpensive shortcut, hang a pinboard or chalkboard on your wall. These removable options are ideal if you’re a renter who can’t repaint or plan to move in the near future.
