"Was a wonderful experience working with Eric. H e was always punctual, did excellent work and cleaned up beautifully. Had a few problem areas that he told me about and then corrected. Price quoted was great and he kept to it. Would highly recommend him."

"Excellent workmanship. Good quality and clean removal of old decking and replacement with new decking and railing. The gate was replaced with a heavier gate that needed to be supported with a wheel. Be sure to discuss this before installation. Deck looks great after two years, easy to clean. Would definitely recommend Freeborne Decking."

"I have an oversize corner lot with a large yard and a good amount of grass to go with it. D&E Lawn care was quick to respond and worked diligently to take care of mowing, trimming and edging on my property. Amazing work, I will definitely hire again, thank you so much!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The proper and most comfortable height for a deck stair riser, also called a step, is between four and seven inches. A height of seven inches is often considered ideal for a strain-free step that minimizes the risk of trips and falls. While it is possible to have risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. For optimal safety and comfort, pair a seven-inch riser with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. Always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements that differ from these general recommendations.

Yes, you can build a pool deck yourself, but it takes precision, a lot of time, and many specific tools. You’ll need to create a deck plan, be careful with measurements, cut each piece of wood, secure the pieces properly, and ensure the deck meets building codes. Building a deck around a pool is a rewarding DIY, but it’s time- and labor-intensive, so thoughtfully consider your abilities and the time you have before embarking on this DIY.

In general, you need a footing at each corner of your deck, and within 8 feet of each other. So, how many you need depends on the size and shape of your deck, plus any local building codes. It also depends on factors like the load capacity of your soil and the weight of your deck. You can find a footing calculator online or contact a pro for support.

The problems with composite decking include a high rate of expansion and contraction from temperature swings. This characteristic can cause boards to split, delaminate, or peel. In addition, significant movement can cause shrinking, warping, twisting, and bending. For this reason, you should minimize moisture and ensure proper airflow below your deck.

Yes, snow should be removed from a deck to protect it from damage caused by moisture and heavy loads. Shovel the snow off of your deck regularly once it is more than four inches deep. Avoid using salt, which can damage your deck.
