"I personally recommend Monarch Roofing. Mathew was amazing to work with, he's experienced knowledgeable and worked well. I'm the judge of that and they did an excellent job!!! The roofers worked very hard, took our old roof off the first day and started the new roof. Second day they finished our roof and cleaned all the roofing materials from our property, they also did an excellent job cleaning up. The men were very hard working and very polite. I'm grateful, and blessed we used Monarch Roofing, I highly recommend them!"

"The entire experience with High Tech Roof was great. From the initial meeting with Gary (the owner) where he explained in detail all the line items in the proposal, to the completion of the my roof replacement. They followed the schedule as we agreed, the entire crew were very respectful , their price was very competitive & I was very satisfy with their workmanship."

Stripping existing shingles and installing a new shingle roof takes a professional one to two days, and sometimes up to three days for larger roofs. Additional safety measures necessary for steep roofs can extend the timeframe even further, as do added measures, like replacing roof decking or reinforcing your roof structure to support heavier materials like slate or clay.

More and more insurance companies are writing torch down applications out of their liability insurance for contractors. If torch down is covered, they generally require a worker to stay on site for two hours after the last flame is extinguished.

For this reason, cold application modified bitumen—also known as “peel and stick”—is becoming more popular, and torch down is decreasing in popularity. Modified bitumen is taking its place, as it uses both hot and cold applications.

The proper specifications for furring strips can vary, so you should always consult the roofing manufacturer's guidelines or your roofer. However, general recommendations are as follows:

  • Thickness: Furring strips are typically 1 to 1-1/2 inches thick, meaning standard 1-by or 2-by lumber works well. In areas with extreme winds, a thinner strip may be preferred to limit how much air can get under the roof and cause uplift. A thicker strip can add slightly more insulation but will also increase installation costs.

  • Spacing: The recommended spacing for furring strips is between 12 and 24 inches apart on center. Proper spacing is crucial for ensuring good airflow, adequate drainage, noise reduction, and better energy efficiency. The ideal spacing can depend on the roof's pitch and the specific type of metal roofing being installed.

Yes, but it won't be as effective as installing it as part of a new roof because it won't be as water-resistant. However, a drip edge installed after the fact is better than no drip edge at all.

To apply for a roofing permit, contact your local building authority. You may visit their office in person or contact them via phone or email. For more information on how to start the process, visit their website.
