"We hired Century Masonry & Waterproofing several years ago after suffering through several flooded basements. At a time when some contractors are out there trying to sell unnecessary services and products, Sean is an honest, consultative, helpful professional. He was able to identify problems with our existing sump pit and corrected them. He also identified the fact that the sump pit was not in the lowest point of our foundation and installed a second sump pit and pump there. Thankfully, and knock on wood, we haven't had an issue in years. Thank you Sean and Century Masonry & Waterproofing!"

"Eric, his uncle and team of construction workers did an excellent job with installing a 42x5ft Belgium Block driveway apron to protect a new asphalt edge of my driveway. They started fast and finished even faster. They are absolutely outstanding and I will be contracting with them again Lord Willing. I have other major projects needing Masonry and hardscaping professionals. Auspiciously, ALB Construction is where it’s at! Thank you guys so much! —G. A. Arathorn"

"I had a great experience with Black Rock Exteriors, LLC. They were professional, honest, and really took the time to make sure the job was done right. The quality of the work was excellent, and they treated my home with care as if it were their own. It’s hard to find reliable contractors, but I’d definitely recommend them to anyone needing roofing or masonry work. They repaired my asphalt shingle roof, and it looks fantastic."

"We hired Uprise to replace and install a stone walkway and a backyard stone patio. From start to finish, our experience was phenomenal. Eric clearly explained the project plan and options. His ideas on design were extremely helpful and the masonry work is beautiful. We highly recommend Uprise construction."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

The timeline for masonry work depends heavily on the project scope and local weather. Minor repairs take one to four days, while full rebuilds require several weeks. In Hackettstown, you must also account for permit processing, which adds one to three weeks before construction begins. Mortar requires a full 28 days to cure completely. Schedule your project between May and October to avoid severe weather delays and freezing temperatures.

Helpful?

Repairing existing structures is highly cost-effective when the individual bricks or stones remain sound. Early repointing prevents severe water damage and extends the life of masonry work in NJ by decades. Full replacement becomes necessary when more than a quarter of the brick faces are spalling or when active foundation settlement occurs. A local professional will evaluate your property to determine the most durable and economical solution for your home.

Helpful?

You have several energy-efficient options for masonry work in NJ. Insulated concrete masonry units provide excellent thermal mass for the state's wide temperature swings. For older homes, use lime-based mortars to improve breathability and reduce moisture buildup. You can also source reclaimed brick or bluestone to lower the carbon footprint of your project. A certified specialist will ensure these upgrades meet local energy codes while keeping your home comfortable.

Helpful?

The local climate makes mortar selection the most critical factor for masonry work in Hackettstown. The mortar hardness must match your specific brick or stone to prevent damage during winter freeze-thaw cycles. Proper seasonal timing is also essential, as mortar requires warm weather to cure properly. Always ensure your project includes proper drainage, weep holes, and footings placed below the 36-inch frost line to prevent future structural failure.

Helpful?

Hackettstown experiences frequent freeze-thaw cycles that heavily impact masonry work. Look for spalling, where the outer layer of brick or stone flakes off. Check for crumbling mortar joints, horizontal cracking, or white salt deposits called efflorescence. You should also inspect older structures for stair-step cracks or bulging walls. A local professional will assess these issues to ensure your home remains safe and protected from the elements.
