"We had a freezing bedroom in our house as well as a freezing entry way. Turns out it was above the garage with zero insulation. Mike came out and from the start understood what was creating the issue. Not only he is highly knowledgeable about home construction in general, he was an absolute pleasure to work with and hilarious! The team at Acorn was able to schedule us in 2 days before Christmas. If you were in the North East around Christmas 2022, you experienced that deep freeze that came through. If you want to know if your home was insulated right, nothing like freezing temps to show you. Acorn did a thorough and professional job and installed blown and fiberglass insulation. Our room was toasty with no indication of how cold it was outside. I cannot thank them enough!"
"I RECENTLY HAD MY ATTIC INSULATION REPLACED BY MASTER ATTIC. ALEX CAME OUT RIGHT ON SCHEDULE AND GAVE ME A FAIR PRICE. ( I DID HAVE 4 OTHER ESTIMATES) THE CREW LEAD BY ROBERTO WAS AMAZING. THEY WERE VERY CONSIDERATE, CAREFUL IN MAKING SURE THE AREA WAS SEALED OFF AND WERE VERY CAREFUL OF MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS. THEY DID A GREAT JOB IN REMOVING OLD INSULATION , VACUUMING OUT THE ATTIC ,SPRAYED AREA AND SEALED ANY OPENINGS. BEFORE THEY BROUGHT IN NEW INSULATION, THEY ASKED ME IF I WISHED TO TO VIEW THE ATTIC AND I DID. I WAS AMAZED EVEN AT THIS POINT, HOW CLEANED EVERYTHING LOOKED . (THIS INSULATION HAD BEEN UP THERE FOR 70 YEARS) NEW INSULATION WAS INSTALLED AND IT LOOKS GREAT. THE CREWED CLEANED UP EVERYTHING , EVEN VACUUMED THE AREA IN THE ROOM. ALL BAGS OF OLD INSULATION WERE REMOVED PROMPTLY AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE."
"The insulation crew was prompt, professional, and did a fantastic job installing my new insulation. I highly recommend this company for anyone in need of insulation services."
"Howard Falkow was incredibly helpful and responsive from the beginning. He walked us through the analysis of the energy leaks in the house and outlined several options to help us save on our energy bill. Rather than immediately pitch us on the most expensive option, he gave us an objective cost/benefit analysis as to which package would result in the best energy savings per cost. Howard was very responsive over email as well as on the phone and he and his staff were always friendly, professional, and very accomadating when it came to scheduling. Howard and NY Metro Insulation provide an excellent service for anyone who is looking to make their home more energy efficient. They are honest, professional, and perform high quality work (we noticed results immediately after the work was performed) and I would recommend them very highly to anyone in the area.
"We had been living in our house for 5 years and although the kitchen was a new addition, every winter my wife & I had noticed how noticeably the temperature differentiated especially after the winter of 2014/15. And because it was a dirt floor with some wood and old construction debris strewn about. I was not so keen on staying down there. In doing my own investigation there was some piping and insulation under floor. So when investigating estimates we called a number of "green" companies. Out of the three companies that came, only Frank Petrullo with Eco Green Solutions, noticed the mold and a water leak coming from fridge line. He took the time to show me where the water was coming, how mold had proliferated on the wood floor joists and beams. The dirt floor was somewhat moist and light was visible from outside along foundation rim contributing to the mold and moisture in crawl space. He explained each of our options and detailed the steps in sections of each estimate. We opted to have a plumber fix the water leak, then franks crew came in, cleaned up the mold, then layed down the crawl space membrane, finally insulating floor & rim joist. All in under two days. The crew showed up on time, left the open sections of the house clean, and we immediately noticed a difference in kitchen and rest of house. Walking around bare foot in kitchen is more comfortable, the kitchen is less noisy, and house humidity is maintained. "
"Joe did a great job on this, our dining room was a add on to connect the original home and the garage and had no insulation and boy in the winter it was unusable as well as the kitchen basically (the best part of the house). Joe came and drilled small holes in the attic floor that they sealed up later to allow for blowing in the insulation. And they cleaned up well. we have a 20 month old but there was nothing left over for the baby to put in her mouth. Joe is great! Our dining room is toasty and the kids can play in there year-round Plus they are were less than half of the expensive "efficiency" guys PSEG sent over. Those providers wanted to charge $10,000+ for basically the same job."
"It went pretty well. My house didn't get any warmer, because I discovered that I needed windows. For some reason, they couldn't tell me that I needed windows. I put some plastic over some of the windows, and the change was almost instant. I would have rather put the money I spent for the insulation into putting in new windows. They were professional, and they did a good job. They just missed that I needed windows instead of insulation."

Energy-efficient homes generally have higher appraisals and appeal to buyers.
You can insulate an existing garage door. But while it’s a cost-effective option upfront, it may not perform as well as a garage door that comes with insulation. If you live in a colder climate—or if you plan on working in your garage and need a new door—you should purchase one with existing insulation for better efficiency.
In some areas, insulation companies require a special license, while some states only require them to hold general contractor licenses. Some municipalities may not mandate any license, although you should always ensure a contractor is fully insured. You can use Angi’s license lookup tool to confirm whether or not an insulation contractor you’re considering holds the necessary license for your area. You can also contact the company for information regarding licenses, certifications, and insurance.
Vapor barriers in attics are a bit outdated and most areas no longer recommend them for attic spaces. For vented attics, the best method is usually to install drywall and cover it with latex paint before attaching insulation fiberglass, cellulose, or foam insulation. When renovating an attic to use as a living space, a contractor can guide you on the best way to cover insulation.
Insulating windows without plastic is usually the better method. Outside of simply replacing your windows, you could buy cellular shades, which trap air between the window and the home, add a window film that blocks UV rays and traps heat, or cover your windows with a low-emissivity coating called “low-E.”
