"I highly recommend this business. I have never before given a rating for any business but D Sutton Landscaping gave me a very competitive quote, showed up as promised, did the work in the time promised, brought an experienced crew, and did a few added jobs without a problem. I will definitely use them again."

"Company was very responsive about the project and provided fast service throughout the project. The price was the lowest out of all companies and the workmanship was excellent. I will be recommending them to everyone I know for any paving work."

"This job could not have gone any better! After requesting a few quotes via Angie's list, Richard got back to me within 24 hours to inquire about the job. Turns out he was doing a few driveways in my development the next day and said he would stop by and have a look at my driveway. After a brief chat about options for the driveway, he gave me the price (very reasonable) and said he would be back later in the morning to perform the work. Richard and his team showed up as scheduled, sealed the driveway (looks awesome) and they were on their way! This may have been the most economical, highest quality, lowest stress work I have ever had on our house! Highest rating for all aspects of the service for sure."

"Charlie is a man of his word, he sent his crew out to resolve a problem with rain water come into my driveway after a heavy rain fall. After the last few storms there is no flow of street water coming onto my property, I'm happy with CH paving service, and I will use their service on the next paving project."

"JRH Paving repaved an existing driveway that was first paved in 2003 by another firm. The previous firm did an adequate job but created a water problem for a building that was down hill from our house. JRH gave me an estimate to repave the driveway, fix the water problem which wasn’t easy, and to do a little more paving than was originally there. The job was more than 10,000 square feet. They showed up on time, removed the surface of the original paving, fixed the water issue, re-paved the entire driveway, and did it in one day! The owner operated equipment and was on site all day, the equipment was well maintained, and his people were professional, office personnel to truck driver. I would recommend JRH."

"Keith came out and gave us a great quote, and worked with our contractor on scheduling. His work was so reasonably priced compared to some of the others we had received. It was a complicated project, basically leveling and redoing our entire back yard after extensive tree and root work. We also had a huge patio installed and he worked with us on the color and also the best products for the job. If you want honest, reasonable and quality work, look no further than Keith and Michael. These guys are the best and we plan on having them help us with anything we need in the future. Highly recommended to anyone needing complicated work or simple work, they are the best of both and always responsive."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

Your driveway contractor will probably recommend that you avoid driving on your new millings driveway for up to a week. Keeping pressure off the freshy applied millings will help the driveway to bind together. While the sun is helpful for binding millings, hotter weather can actually make the curing process take longer.

Paving is a part of hardscaping, so all paving is hardscaping, but not all hardscaping is paving. Paving involves laying down concrete or asphalt, while hardscaping can also include the use of paving stones, bricks, gravel, wood, and more. Hardscape features that involve paving are considered permanent and will increase your property taxes, while some other hardscaping features—like those involving bricks, gravel, and paving stones—will not affect property taxes. Paving also typically requires a permit, while hardscaping features considered temporary will not.

Installing a walkway to your home can add value, as it can make your landscaping look more intentionally designed and boost your overall curb appeal. In addition, walkways can be installed with accessibility in mind, which can be helpful for those with mobility issues or who need a wheelchair.

The ideal distance between stepping stones depends on your design preference. A general rule is to place them about 24 inches apart from center to center to match an average person's stride. Another common approach is to leave about 6 inches of space between the edges of each stone; this can be adjusted to fit the path's total length without cutting pavers. If you plan to plant between the stones, leave at least 6 to 8 inches of space to give the plants room to grow.
