"Nick replaced all the interior doors in our house and we are very happy with the end result. He took care of ordering, disposal of old doors, and installation, which made the whole process very easy for us. He knows what he’s doing and we highly recommend!"

"I took a chance with CSZ construction because Home Advisor reviewers were so positive-- and I am glad I did. Cesar, the owner, is a very competent professional who did most of the work himself. He weatherproofed my balcony door, fixed a window and replaced the water line of my refrigerator. His prices are very competitive and he will be my go-to repairman from now on."

"We hired Tony to do the following services, clean 3 bath rooms, remove Caulk and apply new Caulk and re-grout, fix the door locks, refinish the stairs banister and fixing the door. He was very prompt in returning my calls, explaining the process and providing estimated cost. He did a great job in our bath rooms they look brand new now. He was punctual and he kept his promise and complete the job on time. The project took 3 days to complete and each day he informed me the status. He was flexible to accommodate my additional request. I would highly recommend to hire him again if you want the job done the correct way. Thank you for all your hard work."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Steel doors last the longest, sometimes upwards of 100 years. Fiberglass comes in second, with a lifespan of 70 years. Wood doors have the lowest lifespan, with some wood types only last 20 to 40 years.

Installing a dog door into an existing door is a quicker, easier project than installing one in a wall. Installing a pet door into a wall requires cutting through your home’s drywall, ensuring no pipes or wires are cut, and sealing the new opening so as not to compromise the safety and stability of your home’s walls, all of which may be a bigger project than many homeowners are looking to undertake.

Using force to open a door is not recommended, as this could cause serious injury or permanent damage to your door and surrounding door frame. If it’s a front door that you’ve lost the keys for, it’s better to call a locksmith. If it’s an interior door without any lock that you plan on keeping, a handyman can help. Finally, if it’s an old door that you plan to replace anyway, a professional door installer can remove the stuck door and source a replacement.

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

Butt hinges are the most common of all door hinges. They’re frequently used in commercial and residential structures, secure interior and exterior doors, and can be used on cabinetry. They’re inexpensive, simple to install, easy to remove, and available in various materials and styles. They come with two leaves with a knuckle or barrel in the middle.
