"Proud Work Ethics, LLC did a great job of power washing and staining my deck. Although we had changes to our original plan, Bob went with the flow and made sure I was satisfied with the outcome, Bob is a real professional, whom I feel goes out of his way to satisfy is customers. I would hire Bob again and highly recommend him to others."

"I would absolutely recommend All Seasons. They were very professional, honest, and fair with their pricing. They also showed up on time and finished the job on time. Their work is impeccable, and they paid attention to every last detail. I liked them and their work so much that before they even completed painting my home, I pre-booked them to come back and paint my deck. I will continue to use them for any future projects that remain."

"Frank Johnson was friendly, professional and knowledgeable! He saved me thousands of dollars from having to replace a very expensive 1960's style 12' glass sliding door. I told him my son said the frame was bent and there was basically nothing he could do to fix it. When Frank called I told him the situation and he asked if he could have a chance to look at it himself. Thank goodness I said yes. He took the time to look at it and came up with an idea that was "out of the box". It worked perfectly! Of course the door should be replaced with a new more efficient door in the future but at least this fix will give me another couple of years to get ready for the expense of replacing this door. OH and did I mention the charge? I was thrilled when he gave me the quote (only $75.00)! This was EXTREMELY reasonable, not only for fixing the problem but for coming up with an idea that my son and a friend of his who works in siding and windows didn't think of. I love my son and he does great meticulous work in that field but when it comes to something that needs to be fixed instead of replaced I am calling Frank Johnson!!! Actually my son is totally on board with that decision too. :) A big Thank you to Frank and to Home Advisor for recommending him. Eileen S."

"They cut a hole in the ceiling to see if there was a water leak. Since there wasn’t an obvious one, they repaired the hole and painted the other stains with anti-mold paint. Then they repainted the entire kitchen ceiling."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Rags used with oil-based stains are highly flammable and can spontaneously combust in the right conditions. To reduce the fire risk, throw them in a metal container after use and add rocks on top to secure them. Add an inch of water and seal the container. Take the rags in the container to a hazardous waste factory as soon as possible.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

For the longest-lasting exterior paint, consider acrylic or enamel (oil-based) paints. Acrylic paints, including acrylic latex and acrylic enamel, are known for withstanding harsh weather and sun exposure. Enamel-based paints are also one of the most durable options available. While latex paint is common, it typically has a shorter lifespan than acrylic or oil-based options. The paint's finish also affects its durability; a higher gloss finish is generally more durable. For resistance to moisture and cracking, matte and satin finishes can be effective, while a high-gloss acrylic or oil-based paint offers a combination of maximum longevity and durability.

Yes, it is important to wash your deck before painting to ensure the paint applies well and adheres properly. While you don't have to use a pressure washer, it is one of the most efficient cleaning methods. Pressure washing can quickly remove dirt, wood fibers, and flaked paint, getting deeper into the wood than manual scrubbing. You can also clean the deck with a stiff broom and a cleaning solution. Regardless of the method, a clean surface is essential for good paint adhesion. Make sure the deck is completely dry before applying any paint.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.
