"Garden State Garage and Siding was definitely the best choice i could have made. After numerous quotes from other companies and some shady estimates i decided to go with these guys to replace my roof. Nuno and his crew are all personable, they're not pushy and they're super respectful. From the initial consultation and even when they started they were more than transparent. Nuno even sent progress pictures along the way since this particular house was a rental. I would recommend to anyone in the Bergen County that needs a new roofing contractor or a siding contractor. Thanks again guys!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Dominic and his daughter Gabrielle were amazing. From the moment they arrived to do the estimate all the way to final payment they were on top of everything. Little things that we would never think of they do and they made it perfect. From set up to clean up this was THE best contractor experience we have ever had. Every morning Gabrielle was onsite checking over the work from the previous day and making sure that everything was perfect. Her team had a work ethic that cannot be matched, and they took the time to clean up after each hard day of work. It really speaks to the strong culture of the company. It was a pleasure working with Gabrielle, she goes over and above on what she does for the customer. Anytime we had a question or concern she addressed it. We have nothing but the highest praise for D&D. From the initial consultation through the project's completion, Dominic, Gabrielle, and their entire crew were a pleasure to deal with. They started the project on the date they committed to, the crew worked from 8 am to 6 pm each day, and the project was completed on time. The quality of the work is outstanding and the cost was very reasonable. I wish D&D did more than siding/windows/roofing because I would hire them for every single project that we have. We highly recommend this company."

"Manny and his crew did our home's siding (removal and replacement), new gutters, overhang, front and side door trim and door, repaired our deck, built us wooden stairs and established a drainage pipe under our lawn to catch our gutter water and sump pump water, plus a few other odd jobs and we are happy with every single one of them! He gave our house a total facelift and listened to all of our concerns as well as gave advice for how to make things look better, without overcharging us. It was a fair price for work well done, the crew was courteous and hardworking, and they cleaned up after themselves. We would definitely recommend MJA to anyone considering inside or outside renovation or repairs; they're honest and give a fair price and will go through things step by step with you which nearly impossible to find and a real treasure once you do."

"Everything went very well. There was a supply chain shortage, but the siding and supplies arrived in a timely manner. I had just finished the prep work on the chimney, foundation, trim and electric wires. The supplies arrived, along with a dumpster and work crew to tear down the cedar shake shingles. Everything went according to plan, and the job came out better than we expected."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Professional installers typically recommend caulking between siding boards, but it depends on the material. With Hardie board and fiber cement siding, manufacturers don't recommend adding caulk because it can trap moisture in the joints or discourage flexibility in fluctuating temperatures. Consult your local siding contractor about caulking best practices before adding any to your home’s exterior.

The most significant benefit to mixing siding styles is the visual appeal and intrigue you can create. Multiple colors or textures will make your home stand out, boosting curb appeal and home value. Mixing siding styles also lets you take advantage of the high resale value of stone without having to pay the high cost of covering your entire home with it. Coupling stone and vinyl means pairing affordability and value. Plus, you’ll often only have to pay for a partial siding replacement when it comes time to replace one of the materials.

To maintain vinyl siding, homeowners should regularly clean it with mild soap and water, inspect for damage, and promptly repair any issues. Avoid using high-pressure washing and keep sharp objects away to prevent scratches. Check for mold or mildew and clean with a mixture of water and mild detergent. Take preventive measures to avoid fading, such as minimizing exposure to direct sunlight and using color-safe cleaning products. With proper maintenance, vinyl siding can retain its appearance for years.

Look and feel for signs of damage after a hail storm. On vinyl siding, there will likely be cracks or holes. If you have steel or aluminum siding, look for dents and cracked or chipped paint. For wood and fiber cement boards, dents are the most common sign of hail damage.

You can put new siding over clapboards, but it’s not recommended. Some sidings, like vinyl siding, can go over clapboards with sheathing like a foam layer in between. However, it’s best to remove clapboard siding if you plan on replacing it with new siding. Burying wood clapboards underneath new siding can create risks of rot and mold, or hidden insect damage. It can also create warping issues over time. Removing clapboards allows you to properly install a new sheathing, as well as clean up the exterior wall and look for any signs of damage.
