From the initial miscalculation of the loam and seed needed to complete the project to his refusal to meet and discuss the unresolved issues, the experience was deeply disappointing. Additional concerns exist but are beyond the scope of this review. To offer a simple comparison: while Brian was working on my property, the electric company happened to reseed a patch of roadside across the street. Their quick, basic repair job yielded better results than what I received. If Brian’s outcome had matched even that standard, I wouldn’t feel the need to leave a negative review. Perhaps his services are adequate for basic tasks like mowing, raking, or plowing. But for more substantial projects, I strongly recommend exploring other options. Do your homework before making a decision."

You can trim just one side of the tree, especially when that side is growing near something like a power line or a home. Pros will carefully trim the tree back until it is safe from that structure. While this is common, it also needs to be done with the utmost care, as pruning or trimming away at one side of the tree may make it structurally unsound. It is possible for you to cut down your own tree, but only take this project on if it’s a small tree and you’re experienced handling a chainsaw. If you need to use a ladder to cut down the tree or tree limbs, it’s too large (and dangerous) for you to remove yourself. 

Hire a pro instead who can safely remove the tree without injury to you, themselves, or your home. Either way, look into tree removal regulations for the state you live in before having a tree removed to ensure it’s not a historic tree or protected by your city.

You don’t always need a permit to grind a stump, but you might need one depending on your location and the stump’s surroundings. Permits are often needed if the stump is part of a protected tree species, near public areas or utility lines, or close to environmentally sensitive zones like wetlands. Some cities also regulate noise and work hours. Always check local rules before grinding, and contact your city or county office if you're unsure.

Using vinegar to kill tree roots is just one of the clever ways to use vinegar around the house. The method works best when you apply vinegar as directly to the root system as possible. For example, if the old tree roots and stump are currently exposed, drill holes in the tops of the roots and pour undiluted white vinegar into the holes to soak into the plant. Remember that vinegar can kill the surrounding grass and plants should it pour over the edge.
