"I recently had my shingle roof replaced and I?m very happy with the results. The team was professional, punctual, and completed the job efficiently. The quality of the work is excellent, and the new roof looks great. They kept the work area clean and communicated well throughout the process. "Todd built a beautiful new ¾ bathroom and minibar in our basement. The job involved all new plumbing and a ceiling fan vented to the outside. It was a challenging job because of a low ceiling and other problems, but Todd came up with innovative solutions for all of the hurdles we ran into. This is the second project that Todd has handled for us, and we feel very fortunate to have found him. His workmanship is outstanding, he listens patiently to our questions and preferences, and he goes out of his way to make sure we are happy. His fees are also very reasonable. Todd is a real professional and it’s a pleasure to work with him; I would strongly recommend him for any remodeling project."

"Overall, we are pleased with the work. Kevin and his crew arrived on time every day and worked until about 3pm, leaving the after school and dinner hours to ourselves. He graciously accepted changes to the job and worked around my chair lifts...I am handicapped. The finished walls and ceilings look very nice. However, the job took nearly a month, which was far longer than anticipated, even giving extra time for scraping. The dust and mess were very difficult to deal. Also, there is paint on the carpet and the bathroom sinks, and the brand new toilet lids are scratched beyond repair from dust being ground into them and have to be replaced."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

The cost of application ranges from $1 to $3 per square foot, depending on the presence of asbestos and the difficulty of removal.

When steaming falls short, consider utilizing a commercial texture remover tailored for popcorn ceiling removal. Adhere closely to the manufacturer's guidelines and conduct a preliminary test in an inconspicuous spot to verify compatibility with your ceiling. This specialized product offers an alternative solution for stubborn texture removal, potentially streamlining the process while safeguarding the integrity of your ceiling surface. Remember, products like these may be high-VOC, so wear protective gear.

The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. You’ll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then, you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife. This method works best with unpainted walls since paint prevents water from saturating the textured joint compound.

The average popcorn ceiling removal costs around $2,000, but prices can range from $950 to $3,100, depending on the size, accessibility, and whether or not there’s asbestos or lead paint.

We don’t recommend DIYing this project to save money, but you can DIY the prep work to speed things up. Consider removing furniture, ceiling lights, and other fixtures before the workers arrive on site. To be extra helpful, cover any remaining belongings with plastic tarps and secure them with tape.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity due to their outdated appearance, difficult maintenance, and potential health risks. Ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos, which poses a serious health hazard if disturbed. As design trends have shifted towards sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now favor smoother ceilings that offer a cleaner look and easier upkeep.

However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as acoustic dampening and the ability to hide imperfections. Some people also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective option. Ultimately, whether a popcorn ceiling is 'bad' depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and the overall aesthetic of the home.
