"Richard is a wonderful person to work with. Great communication and very easy going. He knows his stuff! He was able to accomodate the design needed for additions in my 1949 Cape Cod style home, as well as redesign on the interior. He lived more than an hour away, but was willing to travel out to my home for measurements! This was a huge plus. He was able to coordinate the printing of blueprints, so I could pay for them and have them sent to my home, since he lived a distance away. I would highly recommend him to anyone, in need of an architect, for a project, on an older home. He was such a pleasure to work with!"

"Hossein Vahedi of CLASSICAL HOMES LLC designed our house and supervised the construction process. He was friendly and easy to work with, had many creative ideas, and really tried to understand our needs. He worked well with our general contractor. His price is very reasonable. I highly recommend him to people who want to create their own dream house, but need professional help to translate their ideas to doable project."

Customers say: Quick response

"O'Regan Construction are the absolute best contractors we've ever hired! We were very lucky to find them. It made what first seemed to be an overwhelming project, a fun adventure to watch come together. Paul's forethought throughout the project was amazing. He took care of every detail, bringing every specific contractor as well as the Town (permits and inspections) together. They are the most polite conscientious team I've ever had the pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend them and have already done so having my family hire them with the same highly professional results."

Architects questions, answered by experts

Open floor plans can come with drawbacks—mainly the lack of privacy and noise dampening. Walls act as an important barrier for traveling sounds, meaning in an open floor plan you could hear your dishwasher running while sitting in your living room. Storage limitations and separation of activities (for example, keeping the kid’s playroom away from the dining room) are other reasons some homeowners are opting out of an open floor plan.

It can take anywhere from a few days to several months to draw up architectural plans, depending on the complexity of your project. Architectural plans are highly detailed documents that take time to complete, and any changes or alterations can significantly extend how long they take.

British architect John Nash is credited with creating the Italianate style of architecture. The style was further popularized in the U.S. by landscape architect Andrew Jackson Downing and architect Calvert Vaux. The style spread across the U.S. due to Downing’s popular book on the style and the availability of plans and materials due to the mass production of the Industrial Revolution.

Many architects offer 3D modeling and virtual walkthroughs, which allow clients to visualize the project and make informed decisions before construction begins.

It is technically possible to draw your own blueprints, but the process is extremely involved and really demands help from an expert. A professional architect has an understanding of design elements, interior design, the functionality of different rooms in a home, and how everything from furniture, outlets, and light switches should be laid out to serve you and your family best. Hiring an architect for blueprints can get expensive, but it’s the most responsible way to begin a new construction project. If you’re keen on DIYing, you could consider starting the process and then having a professional take over.
