"I hired Ben through Thumbtack and I couldn't be happier with Ben's work so I thought I would spread the word. I am so grateful for the quality of work he performed in replacing my sink and faucet. He was skillful, meticulous, punctuation and fast. He is professional and understands the art of great customer service and is passionate about his work. I feel as if I found a treasure in Ben and I will hire him for future projects and other work I need to get done."

Cavanaugh and Son, is a well established, full service landscape co. built on its quality of work.

"The Cavanaugh arborist team came this morning to prune the long-neglected crabapples and to remove some poplars that were overgrown and soon to fall down. The team was impressively professional: they were fast, efficient, very neat, and nice. The arborist pruning the crabapples took real care, stepping back after each cut to look over the tree's shape, its position in the small grove, taking care not to take too much off. Excellent work!"

"Completed job quickly over two days; exactly what was needed. Process however was messy. Contractor did not protect shrubbery along edge of roof. Final roof is fine but I may need to have him come back to address a few concerns about shingles not laying flat."

Roof Ice and Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

Generally, snow removal from a roof should occur once over six inches of snow accumulates, especially if you notice that ice dams have formed. Without ice dams, you can let the snow accumulation hit 12 inches before removing it. However, the amount of snow that is too much for your roof also depends on the sturdiness of your roof and the compactness of the snow. If your roof needs maintenance or has structural issues, it’s best not to let the snow accumulate too much for fear of collapsing.

Using a snow blower can make removing snow easier if you have physical limitations and a large area to cover. Snow blowers can remove large amounts of snow quickly, which can also save you time. However, shoveling can be efficient for smaller areas with light snow. The method you use will depend on the specific situation and your preference. Of course, you can skip doing it yourself and stay out of the cold by hiring a snow removal company near you.

Yes, and they do it exceptionally well. Heated roof cables have two purposes: melting snow and preventing ice buildup. Ice damming happens when ice forms on the roof (usually where the roof meets the gutter) and melts stubbornly slowly, causing moisture to enter the roof itself and, therefore, the home.

You should check with your insurance provider, but generally, ice dam removal is not covered by insurance, as it’s considered a preventable issue. However, damage from ice dams may be covered by your policy, including roof collapses. In the case of leaks, your belongings may or may not be covered. If you can’t find specific information on ice dam removal in your policy, give the insurance company a call and find out.

While most people associate defrosting icy roads with salt, you can also use sugar for a similar result. Sugar lowers the freezing point of water, melting ice in a pinch.

However, sugar doesn’t melt ice as well as salt because it doesn’t separate the water molecules as efficiently. So, if you need to quickly melt a stubborn patch of ice on your driveway or walkway, it’s best to use salt over sugar for faster results.
