"MMP was fantastic. They were easy to work with and did great work. We only had trouble with 2 sub-contractors during this project (Granite & Kitchen design) and they were the sub-contractors that my wife and I selected ourselves outside of MMP... we wish we had used MMP for everything because they did such a good job. I can't recommend them enough. We'd definitely use them again in the future and recommend them to anyone."

"Tim and his crew are amazing. They built me an awesome deck!! From the beginning of the project to end I was thoroughly impressed. His quote was timely and fair. I’ve heard of so many horror stories about contractors so i was so pleasantly surprised at how great this experience was. The work began quickly and the workmanship is incredible. These guys know what they’re doing. Tim is so professional. He is prompt, he communicates everything in detail and really pays attention to detail in the work. He’s also a really nice guy. His crew is polite and work so hard. They’d get here and never stop working. Maybe 5 minutes to eat a sandwich. I plan to hire Tim for future projects. No question about it! Highly recommend."

"When searching Angi / HomeAdvisor, T&K Renovations was one of the companies that came up in my search for a contractor to work on my home in Nags Head, NC. I was quoted by (4) contractors total. Thaad Page with T&K was one of them. What initially stood out was his communication. Mr. Page didnâ t just sling me a quote only for me to guess the details and outcome of the job. He took the time to explain to me his approach to each part of the job (some parts of it that required a bit of creativity). Thaadâ s excellent communication early on was a big part of my decision to hire him and that same level of communication continued throughout the project once he started it. The Job: T&K repaired a significant amount of wood root in my homeâ s framing, re-sided the home with cedar lap and then stained it with the stain of my choice. They also took on the challenge of straightening out a large lop-sided and twisted shed on the property that had parts of itâ s foundation failing (pilings). This existing shed also had a large dip in the roof that needed to be addressed and siding that was disintegrating. The shed was somewhat functional but it was a downright eyesore so I wanted it to be renewed and more functional. Once the shedâ s foundation was reinforced, the shed was then straightened, re-sided, and a new roof was installed. It was then stained. In addition, a new shed door was built and installed. T&K was very professional throughout the job and it was clear that they cared about doing a quality job and satisfying the customer. The new siding on the home looks great and itâ s now protected from the beatings of norâ easters & tropical storms that pummel coastal homes. The shed has been brought back to life and is now an asset to the property. Something worth noting: Thaadâ s original quote included a new door for the shed but he went the above and beyond a typical shed door and built me a beautiful heavy duty custom door from aged oak that he had. He went the extra mile and I really appreciated this. I highly recommend Thaad, John, Rich and everyone at T&K Renovations and plan on hiring them again for a couple of additional projects that I need to have done at my place soon. Thank you T&K Renovations!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

Accurate measurements, sturdy materials, and seamless integration with other structures.

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.
