"JWs Landscape worked with me to clear my property of overgrown gardens, trees, etc to prep it for a lawn. They communicated with me throughout the entire process as I was not always on site. They were very accommodating of changes and requests I made as the work was being done."

"I tried Sod for my yard twice but my German Shepard killed it. I figured I give this a try and it has been two weeks so far and I feel it is one of the best things I have done. Yard looks great and the crew that put it in did an awesome job. They did a lot of work to level out the yard and to secure the turf down. Anyone is welcome to come and check this out in Lowell Ma. "Richard was awesome to deal with. We made a call to him because we were in need of some work and my brother-in-law had used him for one of his properties. He showed up we talked about a plan and then he came and took care of everything. He does awesome work, hard worker and has a keen since of detail. He definitely treats your lawn like it’s his own and he wants to make it look as good as possible. I am so glad that we found him and we will continue using him and we will definitely refer him to other people as well."

"I had a wonderful experience with Edwin and his team at Martin Landscaping on a backyard patio. Edwin is professional, conscientious, detail-oriented and open to feedback. He worked with me on a patio design as the design evolved, final result turned out very nice. His bid was comparative to most others and his willingness to work on the design and follow-up, won him the contract. Edwin and team started early everyday and finished the job on time."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Many ways to landscape a steep slope on a budget exist. Avoiding expensive retaining wall construction is the first step. Consider creating a rocky slope with boulders or large stones, or think about planting perennials that return every year with a single investment. Transplanting small trees from elsewhere on your property is also possible and can help to stabilize steep slopes without purchasing new ones.

The landscaping elements that add the most value are often the basics. A well-maintained, attractive lawn can have a return on investment (ROI) of up to 217%. Routine lawn maintenance, such as edging and mulching, can provide an ROI of over 100%. Other high-value projects include upgrading your front walkway, which can offer a 100% ROI, and planting trees. Projects like adding decks, patios, outdoor lighting, irrigation systems, fire pits, and outdoor kitchens also add value and enjoyment, though their direct financial ROI may be less than 100% in some cases.

Finding a reputable greenhouse or nursery should start online, where you can read through customer reviews to gauge the quality of the plants sold and the customer experience. Look out for customers complaining about plants dying shortly after purchase, and try to choose a greenhouse known for hiring employees who are able to explain how to care for the plants you purchase. It’s also a good idea to head to a few greenhouses to see the selection they offer and make sure they carry the plants or trees you’re looking for.

Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. But if mature tree roots start growing in the direction of your home’s foundation or plumbing system, it could be a real problem. Cutting small tree roots out before they grow too large can keep your home safe without removing the whole tree.

You can fill the holes weeds leave behind with soil or sand to avoid unsightly spots or tripping hazards. If you remove weeds from a grassy area, fill the hole with soil and grass seed, and water regularly to promote grass growth.
