"Out of the two pads that needed significant leveling, only one turned out well. Also, what was supposed to be a 2 day job only took 4 hours; this leads me to believe the labor was over-estimated by a factor of 3. Meaning, I over-paid significantly."

This approach, called polyjacking, involves injecting the foam rather than concrete slurry to fill voids and raise the concrete slab back into place. There is no real alternative to underpinning, although mudjacking and polyjacking are other repair methods that can add support from underneath your foundation.
