"Took out some stairs that were falling apart and gave us a very nice, sturdy, new set. Orion was very professional from the start and got the work done in a flash. Worth every penny from the estimate through the project."

"Needed to have storm door on enclosed porch swing to inside of porch instead of out as is usual. This was to give us more room on the top deck of the handicapped ramp to open door without the wheelchair or walker rolling back down ramp. Dats called us the same morning that we listed, to set up a time to look over the job. Gave us a very fair quote. Scheduled the door replacement for the next day. They picked up the new door.then came to the house and spent about 2 hours to install the new storm door after removing old storm door. FYI could not find any storm doors that were made to to swing inward any place on the internet. Dats modified the door from outward swing to inward swing for us. They did great work and really made the house look better. Have more jobs needing done in spring when weather is better. Plan on having Dats do the work. T.L. Gillham"

Gazebos questions, answered by experts

For many people, a gazebo is worth it, but it’s a matter of personal preference. If you love spending time outside but your yard doesn’t offer much protection from the sun or rain, then adding a gazebo might be worthwhile. Or, if you enjoy hosting dinner parties and want a nice outdoor space to gather with your friends, a gazebo could be a good investment.

Porticos last 25 to 60 years, depending on the material used. A portico’s roof typically matches the roof of the rest of the home and can be replaced simultaneously. Portico columns have a similar life span if properly maintained and regularly sealed. In some areas, harsh weather and extreme temperatures may cause a portico to wear more quickly.

Several types of porches are available to meet your needs and style preferences. Some common porch types include:

  • Porticos are essentially a roof over a walkway leading to the home's front entrance.

  • Sunrooms are closed-in porches that are an extension of the house with glass or plastic panels that allow optimal sunlight.

  • Wraparound porches extend around the entire home, or at least the front and one side, and offer multiple entrances to the house.

  • Back porches are an extension of the home’s floor into the outdoors. These offer more protection and privacy than a deck.

Common materials include wood, vinyl, and metal. Wood offers a classic look, while vinyl and metal are low-maintenance options.

To make the gazebo accessible, you can build a wheelchair pathway leading up to it. The path should be paved with a smooth surface for wheelchairs to roll through. A low curb should be placed along each side to ensure the wheelchair stays on the path. At the end of the path, build a wheelchair ramp connecting the gazebo.
