"Hands down a five-star recommendation for HomeXTR! We needed a parking extension for our driveway and we contacted a few well-reviewed companies for estimates. From the start of that process, with the initial phone call through the estimate and recommendations on how to approach our project, HomeXTR was thorough, professional and friendly. And all at a most competitive and fair price! The choice of HomeXTR was easy for us. The team handling the preparation and installation of the addition was experienced and meticulous and I couldn't have asked for a better result. Our family and neighbors have commented on how good the addition to our driveway looks. If you need concrete work, I would unhesitatingly recommend HomeXTR."

"Liz & Alan are great to work with. From the beginning to end, they listened to what we wanted and gave us options in the design and layout of our new patio. Communication was key and Liz kept us apprised of times and dates for the scope of work. They started soon after a couple of weeks and started work removing our old deck which was a monster in itself. They got the new patio started from removing the old foundation that was also underneath the old deck, starting from the bare bones. Two weeks later, they completed the new patio, cleaned up the backyard and surrounding areas. Alan then gave us the rundown of the scope of work that entailed everything and gave us directions in caring for our new patio as well. We know and feel we spent our hard earned money with the right crew. They provided exceptional quality work and professionalism throughout and it was an awesome experience. We look forward to having them come back next year and do the rest of our landscaping/ hardscape in the front and back yards. Thank you again Liz, Alan & Limitless Landscape crew!"

"Easy to work with and conveniently quick with start and finish times. We do have a lot of yard cleanup items to do now that the work is done (such as filled in side gaps with dirt, raking my yard to make sure dirt patches won't kill my grass, lots of bricks from the previous cement torn up left over). That may be a normal process I wasn't aware of. But the concrete project is wonderful, very clean and even. Would use them again."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

It’s best to weigh the pros and cons of each material and decide on your priorities for your driveway. Gravel won’t be an appropriate choice if your driveway experiences heavy traffic. You’ll find that you need to level and top it off regularly, which could make the material a much more expensive option.

Common alternatives to a gravel driveway include concrete, asphalt, brick, stone pavers, and permeable pavers. Concrete and asphalt are generally the most affordable options. However, concrete can be prone to cracking in cold climates, while asphalt may soften in areas with high heat and direct sun exposure. For enhanced curb appeal, brick, stone, and permeable pavers are popular choices, though their installation can be more expensive due to intricate designs. Stone pavers offer a natural look and are sometimes installed with gravel around them. Both permeable pavers and brick driveways provide excellent drainage, which helps prevent flooding and reduce water runoff.

When comparing installation costs, asphalt is often less expensive upfront than concrete. Asphalt prices typically range from $7 to $15 per square foot, while concrete can range from $3 to $18 per square foot. However, long-term costs should also be considered. Concrete driveways generally last longer (up to twice as long) and require less maintenance, which can make them more affordable over their lifespan. While asphalt has a lower installation cost and is easier to repair, it requires more frequent maintenance, such as sealing, which can add up over time. Therefore, while concrete is more expensive initially, its durability may offset the cost in the long run.

New asphalt goes through two stages: drying and curing. Drying typically takes 24 to 72 hours, after which the surface is solid enough for light use like walking or careful driving. While you may be able to park on it after 72 hours, the surface is still soft and should be treated gently. Full curing is a much longer process, taking anywhere from 30 days to a full year for the asphalt to reach maximum strength. During this extended curing period, the asphalt is susceptible to damage from heavy vehicles, sharp objects, and high temperatures. Factors like weather, the specific asphalt mix, and application thickness all influence drying and curing times. For the most accurate timeline and to ensure the longevity of your new asphalt, it is always best to consult with your installation contractor for their specific recommendations.

The material that’s best for your private road depends on your property, the climate in your area, and your personal preferences. Gravel is an affordable option, but some homeowners don’t like how it looks. It can be a pain to remove snow from, and it requires more ongoing maintenance than asphalt or concrete. However, while these other options require less maintenance and make snow removal a breeze, they’re more expensive and will need repairs from time to time. Ultimately, you’ll have to choose the road material that suits you and your property best.
