"In October of 2023 Contreras Concrete replaced our driveway. Emigdio was responsive and the driveway looked great when they were finished. In June of 2024, I contacted Emigdio about a hole that had appeared and some cracking at the end of the driveway. He came out and patched the hole. I contacted him again in September regarding the cracking. By March of the next year, the crack spread across the entire driveway and we noticed crumbling concrete where it met the garage. I tried contacting him again and never heard back. I would not recommend this contractor based on this."

First, most contractors will have a structural engineer create a report and plan for your project to ensure it’s safe to cut into the load-bearing wall. The contractor will then excavate around the wall, if necessary, measure the opening—allowing for additional space to fit and level the door, and then cut the doorway out. They will likely install a steel lintel as a header over the door for support. Once the doorway is cut out, they’ll demolish the concrete using sledge hammers and masonry chisels, clean up the surrounding concrete, and seal around the door with masonry mortar. 

The costs vary from $3 to $12 per square foot, depending on the thickness of the concrete, accessibility, and labor.

Chimney removal often requires at least two people. Removing a chimney stack is a long process because it must be done brick by brick. A full demolition typically takes up to five days, while removing a chimney stack only may take one-half of a day to two days.

Removing a fence can be rather difficult. The fence posts are likely buried deep in the ground and may even be set in concrete. After removing the fence pickets and rails, allocate plenty of time for removing the fence posts. Depending on the condition and size of a fence, removing one could take anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

Some homeowners have luck using pressure washers, but this only works for old or weaker concrete sealants and with very powerful pressure washers. You’ll get better results by pressure washing water-based sealants. However, it’s worth trying on any sealant if you’re hoping for the least toxic, least expensive, and most DIY-friendly option. To try this method, rent or buy the most powerful pressure washer you can find and take several passes at the concrete, completely pressure washing the entire area. You may need to repeat the process multiple times to see results.
