"We had a 91 mph wind gust at my place around 5:20 am which tore apart the aluminum soffit panels above my covered front porch. I knew that the wind was bad all around SE Nebraska and that I needed to get a contractor to fix it sooner than later. I used Angie's List to list my needs and Immediately I had three siding companies to choose from. Go Siding got ahold of me right after 7:00 am. They came out to my place fixed my porch within three hours of the storm, that's not just quality service but Exceptional service. I would highly recommend GO Siding!! Thank You!"

"I've owned many homes. All of them needed work. So I have plenty of experience with various contractors over the years. Working with NCR Contracting has been one of the best experiences working with contractors I've ever had. They have been responsive, attentive, and flexible. They responded to all of my questions, they showed up on site frequently, they worked in partnership with me to get the job done. I'm very happy with the results. They were hired to reside a historical barn. They helped me think through the best siding options, based on what I wanted to accomplish. They quoted a fair price and stuck to the quote. The quality of the materials, the finish work was unmatched. They cleaned up after themselves each night. The job site was always in order and safe. Their crew was attentive and diligent. They worked hard! I would definitely recommend them for your project. When the project needed to be delayed because of weather or a prior project, they communicated those changes with me. They worked around my availability. The whole experience was exceptional. 5-Star, highly recommended, couldn't be happier."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Professional installers typically recommend caulking between siding boards, but it depends on the material. With Hardie board and fiber cement siding, manufacturers don't recommend adding caulk because it can trap moisture in the joints or discourage flexibility in fluctuating temperatures. Consult your local siding contractor about caulking best practices before adding any to your home’s exterior.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

Fiber cement shingle siding is made from a blend of common ingredients, including cement, sand, water, and wood or cellulose fibers. The composition of the mixture varies depending on the manufacturer, however, with some makers opting to include special additives to improve longevity and resilience, and some include dyes and pigments to create custom colors that don’t require painting.

Mildew grows into porous wood, making it more difficult to remove than regular dirt (and more destructive). We suggest using a dedicated mildew and mold fungicide to remove mildew, which is found in any local home improvement store. Apply a dose of the fungicide to the siding and leave to work according to the instructions, usually for an hour or two. Then wash it thoroughly away and scrub the spot again. Repeat the process if necessary. If nothing is removing the mildew stains, you should plan on removing those clapboard planks in time, as their damage could cause future problems.

Yes, you can shou sugi ban existing siding, but it might pose a hazard to wooden structures, shouldn’t involve treated wood, and must be done by a siding professional. You can not char wood on a house without first removing the boards, so it’s a more complicated replacement project than other siding types.
