"We hired Anointed Power after a sewer flood caused major damage inside of our home; Donald Moore and his crew came in fast, professional and handled all the repairs. During the times Donald had to step away his crew interacted with our family with complete professionalism. Donald helped us with several issues concerning our Insurance Coverage and even took the time to meet with US Bank when they came to inspect the work he completed. Our home looks wonderful! New paint; new cabinets and fresh new carpet; all completed two weeks prior to our agreed upon deadline. Donald Moore fought my Insurance company's scope of work and showed them why I needed my whole carpet replaced; I would not have been able to convince State Farm with out his professional view and input. He did such a good job on the inside we had him build us a new deck in front;; he even re varnished my back deck to match the new one he installed! All of the components of stucco are non-combustible, so the siding material won’t ignite or spread fire to the interior of your home. However, it also expands and contracts with changes in temperature, so it will crack from long exposure to heat. Eventually, fire will spread through those cracks. Still, stucco is one of the best siding materials for fire protection and can keep you and your family safe for an hour, on average.

You should aim to let stucco dry for at least 48 hours before it rains. While misting new stucco and keeping it moderately moist is important for strength and longevity, uncontrolled exposure to rain can lead to weak stucco that doesn’t bond properly. Rain can also affect the stucco finish and the color unevenly, leaving you with less appealing siding.

Solid, unpainted stucco shouldn’t suffer damage from dots of glue used for this task. If the stucco is dirty, you may notice slight marks when you heat and peel the glue away, but these aren’t permanent.

However, not all stucco walls are solid stucco. Some are “faux” stucco with a foam backing. This kind of stucco veneer is more susceptible to damage, including damage from hot glue. We don’t suggest attaching anything to these kinds of stucco walls, so make sure you check the stucco type before starting this project.

Stucco is very challenging to DIY, so it’s always best to leave the work to professional stucco contractors. The same recommendation applies to painting a stucco house, which should be left in the reliable hands of a professional exterior painter. Inexperienced DIYers can make several critical mistakes during stucco application, such as:

  • Failing to apply sufficiently thick layers for longevity and water resistance

  • Uneven application

  • Uneven texture across the exterior

  • Mixing the stucco improperly, leaving a weak structure

  • Failing to texture properly in between coats, leading to cracking and chipping

Homeowners insurance generally won’t cover stucco damage unless it’s caused by a covered event like a storm or fire. You’ll need to pay out of pocket for damage caused by age, wear and tear, lack of maintenance, or faulty installation. Consult your policy for the specifics of what stucco damage is covered and what isn’t.
