"I am very pleased with the work done and with the employees. CJ came out first and deeply reviewed everything and gave me a thorough explanation of what was happening to my home and how they could fix it. Then, the workers - Rene Renteria, Martin Rodriquez and Daniel Garcia came to the home and four days later everything was done! These guys worked very hard and cleaned up after themselves each day. They did a quality job and I'm now very confident in the stability of my home and foundation. I recommend them to anyone needing similar work. Note: The gals I spoke to in the Groundworks office were just as pleasant as the guys I met. They were all very easy to work with and were very pleasant people. They really wanted to satisfy me, their customer. :) I'll call them first next time if I need anything else."

"I had new siding installed on a ranch house and 2-story garage and had an egress window installed. The project got started a bit later that anticipated, but once it did, the siding crew was quick and efficient. They were responsive to any concern I had. The egress window install offered a few challenges with the equipment they used and having to deal with the dirt from the egress window took me a bit by surprise. The inside cleanup could have been a little better. But, all in all, I am very pleased with the results of both the siding and the egress window and the way the project was handled. I would hire this company again and would recommend them."

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

The proper way to install a window well is to measure the window, dig a hole deeper and wider than the window, place a drainage tube and cap, anchor the well to the foundation, caulk the seam, and backfill the hole. The job requires tools such as a hammer drill and auger and some heavy digging. Proper placement and window well installation are critical to preventing water from leaking into the window.

Most professionals can enlarge a window in five to 10 hours, depending on the window location, the exterior wall material, how easy it is to cut through it, and how much buildback you’ll need after the installation is complete. However, more complex projects can take two to three days from start to finish.

Costs depend on window size, type, material, and labor. Custom shapes or sizes typically incur higher expenses; full installation includes removing old windows.

Yes, egress windows are grandfathered. However, this comes with some specifications. If you are remodeling a basement or adding a sleeping area, you’ll need to update the egress windows to be up to proper code. But, if you’re leaving your home as is, you do not have to adhere to these requirements.

To find and hire a reputable contractor for an egress window installation, you should first research local professionals and then vet your top candidates. Start by searching for local contractors who specialize in this type of work, read their customer reviews, and examine their website and portfolio. Once you have a shortlist, contact them to ask key questions: Are you licensed and insured? What is your specific experience installing egress windows? Can you provide references from previous customers? Do you perform the work yourself or use subcontractors? What is the estimated project timeline and your current schedule? How do you handle payment?
