"We had 3 windows put in the garage and a picture window installed in the living room. Wow! It let's in so much light having a picture window. Installation was a breeze and only took a day. The installers were great too and cleaned up after they were done."

"I had an issue with my computer where it was opening lots of pop ups, ad bars, and windows with ads for games. I had tried several different programs to try to remove it with no luck. I finally decided to call North Alabama Technical Service to see if I he could help. I was expecting to set up a time for him to look at it but he connected to my computer immediately and within an hour had it fixed and running perfect again. Great service at a great price and I didn't even have to disconnect it and carry it somewhere! Would call again if I have another issue I can't resolve myself."

"Install was easy. Up front cost was pretty low with Angie's List coupon. Monthly price is a little high compared to competing companies. Response time with alarms is excellent. I was advised to use glass break alarms within 10 ft of my first floor windows, which we installed correctly. I asked prior to installation if having one in the kitchen would cause false alarms due to dishes clanging, etc. I was told the glass break alarms are configured to a precise frequency that alarms with breaking glass. So, not a "no", but not really an answer. Well, every time we cook dinner, wash dishes or empty the dish washer, the kitchen glass break alarm gives a warning which would sound the alarm if it was set. This has caused us a number of false alarms while we've been away due to shifting bowls or plates in our drying rack. For the first several we've had to pay our police department $120 to check the house, and I was only notified after the first alarm that there was a cheaper option for a security company to drive by to check for a break in."

"I filed my claim at 3am. I had a technician assigned to me at 7AM! The tech came the next day right in the appointed window. Mike was very polite fixed my electrical issue and even went out of his way to add an extra outlet in my garage for a small fee."

"I have a home warranty on my 12year old home as it was included by the seller as part of the deal.  It is the "FlexCombo" plan or something like that.  I'm not typically a fan of 3rd party warranties and service contracts, I've had my fair share of bad experiences.  This was my first time using AHS and so far, so good. They  Met or exceeded my expectations for timeliness, prices, ease of contact.  The A/C stopped cooling on Thursday so I called Friday and was able to navigate through an automated system relatively easily and the system told me the plumbing provider it was going to dispatch on Monday, reminded me of certain fee caveats, gave me a 4-hour service window and a confirmation number.  I never spoke to a person and usually hate automated systems, but it understood me and navigated me easily enough.   I also logged online, but was less than impressed with their website, but I was emailed a reminder.  The provider came during the window and was professional and knowledgeable and had me up and running in about 20-30 min. with no attempt to deceive or upsell.  If every experience is like this one, I will think twice and consider keeping this contract.

Windows questions, answered by experts

Mulled windows are no less efficient than individual windows, provided the wall opening is the same size. Larger wall openings filled with glass will always reduce overall energy efficiency, as glass transmits heat more readily than a solid wall. If the windows that are mulled together have the same square footage as individual windows, you might actually see a small decrease in your electric bills, as mulled windows let in more natural light that can reduce interior lighting costs.

On average, bay windows are three times as expensive as a standard double-hung window, so up-front cost is a major drawback. They also let in more natural light than most other types of windows, which can be a positive thing, but it can also lead to more aggressive fading and UV damage to furniture and flooring. Larger windows allow for more heat transfer, so bay windows tend to be less energy-efficient due to their size. Finally, window treatments for bay windows can be more challenging to find, and they’re more expensive than those you’d place over standard-sized windows.

A garden window is about 16 inches to 24 inches deep. This extra space makes room for small potted plants, which is how the garden window, also called a greenhouse window, got its name. Because garden windows jut outward from the house, they need to be installed in a place where they won’t obstruct walkways.

Steel windows are durable and last a long time, but not in all weather conditions. If you live near the ocean, these windows might not be the best choice, as the saltwater breeze can corrode the metal. Steel windows are also more expensive than other types of windows. However, with that high price point comes a sleek, distinctive design that many homeowners find appealing, especially for modern decor. You can also restore steel windows to get a longer lifespan from them, so they can last longer than vinyl, aluminum, and even wood.

Wood windows fall in the middle of the window frame materials when it comes to energy efficiency. They’re more insulating than aluminum and vinyl, but they aren’t as efficient as fiberglass or composite frames. If you love the look and lifespan of wood windows and want to maximize efficiency, you can upgrade to double-pane or triple-pane glass and consider window tinting and low-emissivity (low-E) coatings to minimize heat transfer.
