Literally within an hour or so I heard back from Gavin with a quote. He can do siding AND windows! Yes, it’s okay to use a pressure washer to clear and clean your gutters. Be careful to avoid the outside of the gutters, as getting too close with the powerwasher can peel away the paint. Also, be careful to avoid causing any damage to seams that may be in the corners or along the length of the gutter.

Pressure washing shou sugi ban siding is generally not a good idea. The charring process used in creating shou sugi ban siding involves burning the wood's surface to achieve its unique appearance and enhanced durability. The charred surface is delicate, and pressure washing can easily damage it. Instead of pressure washing, you can clean it with a soft brush or broom to remove loose debris, followed by a mixture of mild soap and water applied with a soft cloth or sponge.

Once you see how well your pressure washer cleans, it’s easy to get carried away and want to blast everything. But some surfaces handle pressure washing better than others. Avoid pressure washing anything electrical, painted (unless you want to strip the paint), or delicate, like glass. And even though you can pressure wash wood or other porous surfaces, select a lower-powered pressure washer and wide-angled nozzle to prevent damage.

If the exterior walls are not thoroughly cleaned before a paint job, the paint could stick to the grime, creating obvious imperfections along the way. Beyond that, painting over a freshly-cleaned wall just about doubles the lifespan of the paint, from three or four years to seven to ten years.
