"Steven told me how bad my roof was when I called him to remove satellite dishes on it. He took pictures and showed me. It had holes that a home inspector missed 2 years ago. There was no tar paper or moisture barrier under the old shingles. My roof is better now than when it was built in 2003. It looks great. They take their time and do quality work. we will call him for other projects."

"My husband and I had been looking for someone to complete a few maintenance repairs around our home (replacing shutters, fix trim along the rooftop, fix siding on the house, replace framework and seals around the garage door and install a ceiling fan). Fiber cement siding is another excellent middle ground, offering a lifespan of 50 years or more with low maintenance at a lower cost than stone or brick.

Yes, mixing siding types will affect your home value, and in most cases, it will improve curb appeal and add to the value of your home. This is especially true if you get the benefit of the high-end appearance of brick or stone siding but save on siding costs by covering most of the exterior with more affordable vinyl or fiber cement.

You cannot install clapboard siding on a bare, unprepared surface. Clapboard siding requires a clean, sturdy base made from plywood or similar materials, sometimes called backerboard. Then, it needs an underlayment or sheathing, a moisture membrane to help protect the exterior wall.

Note that sometimes clapboard siding is caulked as it’s installed for additional protection. We don’t suggest this: Caulking the siding can trap moisture inside the clapboards and lead to moisture damage over time. The siding needs some space to “breathe,” especially in rainy weather.

To calculate how much siding you need for exterior walls, first measure the height and width of the rectangular walls. For the triangular gable walls, measure the width and then the height from the ground to the tallest gable point.

Lastly, keep up with regular cleanings using a garden hose or low-pressure power washer to help prevent grime and discoloration.
