"Awful. Called monday got a quote, dropped off vehicle wednesday and was window was to be replaced friday. They ordered the wrong part and then almost doubled the price. We called at 4:30 the next friday and the guy was on his "way home" and the car wasn't ready. He said he would go back and do the job. He called a few minutes later and said the car was ready and outside the locked fence. The window did not work and we could not lock the door."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Yes, 12-inch shelves are often considered the standard closet shelf depth for storing folded clothing, shoes, and small containers. However, if you plan to store bulky items such as blankets, baskets, or cleaning supplies, you may want to go deeper. For specialized layouts, an adjustable system can give you more flexibility.

You can budget a little less money for how to build a closet with wire shelves than with wood shelves. Some people don’t like the aesthetics that wire shelves provide, though, meaning they’ll gladly spend a little more to add wood shelves to the build. If you decide to buy pre-made wire shelves instead of building custom-sized wood shelves, you’ll be restricted in the closet shelving dimensions you can use.

Costs range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on size, materials, and design complexity.

Custom closets cost around $2,100 on average, but you could pay anywhere from $500 up to $6,000 or more for your custom design. The scope of your design services will be the most significant factor, with standalone designs being the most affordable and design and construction services costing toward the higher end of the price range. Most closet design services include a closet and construction plan.

  • Custom reach-in closet: $500–$1,500

  • Custom walk-in closet: $750–$5,000

  • High-end walk-in closet: $2,000–$5,000+

Clean regularly, avoid overloading shelves, and check hardware for wear to ensure longevity.
