"My home has a chimney that was unsafe to use (cracked masonry liner). I dreaded the time and cost of a tear down and replacement. I contacted "Shamrock Chimney" and scheduled an appointment with their lead technician "Tony". He suggested a less costly and safer alternative (steel liner and a resealing of the outer brickwork. The work was performed over a two-day period. I am fully satisfied with the results. One thing I really apricate is the communication during the project. The "front office" would let me know by either phone or email when the project would start, and then Tony and would give me updates. All and all the whole process went smoothly. Also, this was my first time with "Angi", I hope to use their services again in the future."

"Excellent. The Fireplace Guy arrived on time with a second repair person. He was courteous, friendly, and professional. He is 3rd generation owner and certified by the NFI, so he inspired confidence from the start. He proceeded with diagnostic work and some minor repair, including cleaning and repairing a short in the switch wire, explain gas he went along, which I found very helpful. So nice to have a working fireplace in such (relatively) cold weather."

"It was extremely easy to set up and it is very convenient to use.  I can use my cell phone to turn the alarm off/on wherever I am (or using the box if you aren't a smartphone user), and you can even have your phone automatically remind you to set or disarm the alarm when you are within a given distance from your house.  We use the alarm mostly for checking when people arrive/leave the house (kids got home, handyperson comes by), and for the fire alarm and water sensors.  The water sensors have come in very handy to let us know about a burst water heater and a leaky washing machine before more damage was done. As with all good smoke detectors we've had a few "burnt cookie" alarms, and FrontPoint has always called within seconds to check that we are okay.  We haven't needed any actual police/fire interventions but I imagine that response would be speedy too. You can view the history of the sensors so we can check when someone arrived or left.  We use the door chime so that we know when someone is entering/leaving the house with a pleasant "ding d***" every time the front or back door opens.
The agents will walk you through the setup very quickly and easily.  We went with a non-standard setup for our older home that has many large street-level windows - if someone is going to break in, they aren't going to jimmy open a thin old window, they'll just throw a brick through the large pane of glass and walk right in.  So, we got the glass break sensors for each room instead of the individual magnetic open/close sensors for each window. That was also cheaper since we have 3-5 windows in every room. We haven't had any false alarms (that we didn't trigger ourselves by forgetting to turn off the alarm).  Another company, SimpliSafe is very similar and much cheaper.  Many people at work use them with no problems.  However, they didn't have glass break sensors at the time, and their system isn't as flexible as FrontPoint's, so we went with FrontPoint.

"This purchase was okay. I wasn't altogether please with the company and wouldn't use them again. I wasn't entirely convinced that the worker did all that they said they did. I was expecting to get a quote for additional work, but the work they did felt rushed and I didn't feel comfortable allowing them to do the other work. In the process of cleaning out the chimney they left a huge mess in the dining room. They didn't close off the fireplace when they cleaned it out and after they left there was a huge mess in my dining room. I didn't call the company and have them come back to clean it though, because it was easier to just clean the mess up myself."

"Mr. Bradsher was excellent. I was able to get an appointment to have my fireplace fixed within 48 hours of contacting him and it's the coldest part of the year! It snowed the day he was scheduled to come and he kept the appointment (although we had to push back the appt time because of road conditions). He was able to fix our fireplace quickly and we're so happy to be able to enjoy the warmth of the fire on these cold nights. We'll definitely use KD Bradsher Gas, Piping, and Appliances in the future and recommend him to our friends."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s possible to install a wood-burning stove through the wall. The process is similar to venting the stove through the ceiling, but you’ll need to be careful of electrical wiring, plumbing, studs, and other potential obstructions in your walls. If you’re not comfortable with this type of work, call a professional who installs wood-burning stoves.

Wood fireplace inserts produce more heat without replacing the whole system. A fireplace installer can verify that you have a connector and chimney system to fit the wood-burning insert.

Gas fireplace inserts require less maintenance and are an efficient way to produce warmth. Some can also produce heat in the event of a power outage.

Electric fireplace inserts don't have a real open flame, so they produce flames that mimic a real fire surrounded by artificial logs with LED light. Many electric fireplace inserts produce heat from glowing elements while only using electricity.

For most brick cleaning jobs, including fireplace bricks, use a masonry sponge and a gentle cleaner. A simple solution of equal parts water and vinegar, or a few drops of dish soap in a bowl of water, can effectively remove grime. For tougher stains, you can use a dedicated masonry or fireplace cleaner. It is crucial to wet the bricks thoroughly with water before applying any cleaning solution to prevent the brick from absorbing it, and to rinse the surface completely afterward. Harsher cleaners containing bleach or ammonia should only be used as a last resort, and they should never be mixed together.

The best location for a wood stove depends on your home's layout and venting options. For optimal heat distribution, a central location on the ground floor, such as the living room, is often recommended. If you have an existing, functional chimney, installing the stove there can simplify the venting process. Alternatively, placing the stove near an outside wall can make it easier to route a new chimney through the roof. For safety, ensure no combustible materials are near the stove. Building codes typically require 20 to 36 inches of clearance between the stove and any side walls.

Yes, you can put a freestanding one in a corner if you’re tight on space. Because pellet stoves don’t get as hot as other types of wood stoves, there only needs to be 3 inches of clearance from the wall on each side. Placing it in a corner should not impact the ventilation—you’ll still need to follow safety precautions by not installing too close to a window. Typically, it’s 4 feet from a window or 18 inches if the stove uses an external air source for combustion. Always check the owner’s manual for specific instructions.
