"Called FloorTech of SC after carpet installer I initially hired, backed out. Initial installer (names withheld) came to look at the job with 3 helpers and told me he couldn't do the job, because it was going to take more that 1 day. This left me desperate! I found FloorTech of SC on Angie's List, called them and the owner showed up within 2 hours to look at the job. I needed the job done quickly, so FloorTech of SC came out on a Sunday (owner and 1 helper) and finished the job in about 3.5 hours. Very reasonable price, too! I will hire them for all my flooring needs! Thank you John for bailing me out and getting the job done!"

An Oriental rug should last between 50 and 100 years, on average, but yours could last much longer than a century if you care for it properly. There are many factors that affect the lifespan of an Oriental rug, though. The best solvent for removing carpet glue depends on its chemical composition. Most carpet glue reacts well to a solvent made from orange oil. Use mineral spirits to remove tar-based glue, which has a darker, brownish tint. Methylene chloride paint stripper and lacquer thinner should also work, but beware of the nasty and dangerous fumes.

If you don’t put padding under your carpet, the carpet won’t be protected from wear on the underside. This could result in a shorter life span for your carpet and increased carpet repair costs over time. An unpadded carpet can also be less comfortable to walk on, depending on your subfloor and the type of carpet.

While some carpet repair kits exist and only cost around $15, they are not usually appropriate for Berber repair. Typically, they include small pieces of fibers to use as patches, and Berber carpets are typically colored very differently from other kinds of carpets. This is why it is imperative to try and locate a spare piece of carpet from your original installation when you need to patch up an area.

In addition, the tools these kits include are often watered-down versions of the ones you can buy individually from your local hardware store (e.g., the glue in the kit will not be as strong as your hot glue gun or the double-sided carpet tape).
