"The finished 12' x 12' Sunroom is excellent and good quality. There were months of delays, even during construction. But it was winter time, so we were in no rush. Rich Carbone went above and beyond and installed a security light at no extra charge because of the delays. The only complaint I have is after 4 or 5 phone calls, I am still waiting for them to pick up a pile of scrap metal and an inspectors box that was left here from over two months ago. Despite the aforementioned complaint, I would still recommend. Just don't pay in full until all the trash is gone and the job is complete."

"Very professional, they replaced my screens & hung my plantation blinds within 2 hours. I hired them to fix my irrigation system and put sod in my backyard. I highly recommend this company for whatever home improvements you need. The owner Adam is very knowledgeable, friendly and easy to deal with. His prices are very reasonable for the work he does."

"I had some simple tasks that oftentimes are considered too small for others. Jonathan responded immediately. He was on time, quickly got the job done and actually did some preventive work to avoid a repeat of the issue. I would ask for his services again."

"James was very polite and professional when I talked to him about going out and taking a look at the property. He called me back very quickly for a quote and description of the repairs that were to be done. He was there within 3 days to do the work and finished that day. The price was very reasonable and he did not try haggle me into repairing the entire roof, which prior to me calling him, two other roofers told me the entire roof must be replaced. I knew the entire roof did not need to be replaced at the time. James is a very professional and trusworthy contractor that I would recommend to anyone."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

It’s not a good idea to allow heavy rain to fall on your awning, as puddling can occur and overload the awning. Your awning should be able to handle a light rain, though you should allow it to dry out before retracting it or open it to dry as soon as the rain stops. As always, consult manufacturer guidelines for using and caring for your awning.

Yes, most awnings include warranties for materials and installation. Confirm terms before purchasing.

You can indeed open your awning in winter. It’s a misconception that you can only open retractable awnings in the warmer months. In fact, modern awnings are strong enough to offer a little respite from the snow if you’re someone who enjoys sipping hot cocoa outside on a beautiful winter day. But if a big storm is coming, such as a hurricane or a blizzard, it’s best to close your awning until the weather calms down.

Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:

  • Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire

  • Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning

  • Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings

  • Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust

  • Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option

  • Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage

Awnings offer a variety of materials to choose from, each of which has its own benefits. Cotton is a lower-cost option that’s also more eco-friendly because it’s made from natural materials, while acrylic-coated polyester and vinyl offer better durability against harsh weather. Fiberglass and metal are also resilient to weather, although metal can be vulnerable to corrosion without protective sealant. Ultimately, you’ll need to consider your climate and your budget in deciding the best material for your awning.
