"The CMC Electric service rep was very courteous and professional. We noted one problem where the remote from one fan would also work the fan in the other room. The service rep figured out the problem (toggle switch settings in fan & remote) and solved the problem. Fans work and look great. Highly recommend these guys."

Customers say: Quick response

"They worked with the water heater people to make sure that that water heater was grounded safely. And they did a good job collaborating with them to make sure that they could get it installed. And then I appreciate the Explanation of how my electrical works that was funneled outside was actually not in code, and they updated to make sure that everything was safe in my little old house."

"The AC unit worked like a champ.  When we switched to heating in the fall, the heating unit would shut off after starting.  After several visits, Jacques, the maintenance supervisor, determined that a smaller diameter exhaust pipe had been initially been installed.  Jacques supervised the replacement with a larger diameter exhaust pipe which eliminated the back pressure problem that was triggering the shutdown with the smaller diameter exhaust pipe.  Alpine was completely responsive and professional in their servicing of my situation.  Also, the initial defective thermostat was replaced free of charge.  Alpine wanted to make sure I was a satisfied customer with the new units."

"Great job. Jason brought in a massive 16-foot ladder and had the fan installed in no time. He checked to make sure it was working, and he left the house spotless, all in about 2 hours."

"Nick is very professional and did a great job replacing the old ceiling fan on the vaulted ceiling in my living room. He removed the old fan and even took care of the disposal of it for me, all for an extremely reasonable price. I highly recommend him for any electrical work you might have in your home!"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

To convert a ceiling fan to wireless, you’ll need to install a canopy module to access the lighting and fan controls. Many options are available, all of which help you control specific elements of your ceiling fan, so you have plenty of choices depending on your needs.

Yes, ceiling fans come with a few other features that help with function, style, and convenience. Multi-speed fans can give you specialized control over the airflow. Consider getting one with an integrated light to save ceiling space. Some ceiling fans come with a remote control that enables you to change direction without climbing a ladder. Of course, you can also consider installing a wall switch to enjoy that convenience.

Whether you can install a ceiling fan yourself depends on if you're replacing an existing fixture or installing one where no wiring exists. If you are replacing an existing fan, an experienced DIYer may be able to do the job, which can save on labor costs. This work typically doesn’t require a permit, but there’s always a safety risk when dealing with electrical components, so hiring a pro is still a good idea, especially if you aren't handy. Keep in mind you may need a special ladder for high or vaulted ceilings. However, if you are installing a new ceiling fan where there is no current fixture, you must hire a licensed electrician. In most areas, it is required by law that a professional runs new wiring and pulls the necessary permits. Attempting to install wiring yourself can be dangerous and a code violation.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

The number of blades for your fan poses both advantages and disadvantages. Typically, the more blades on a fan, the better the air distribution and cooling effect, but this also means that your fan will have more wear on its motor. For small rooms, three-blade fans should work fine. For larger areas like living rooms, four or five-blade fans might be the better option.
