"The two workers arrived and quickly assessed what needed to be done and then gave a reasonable estimate. Then they began working. My windows are now sparkling and the screens are bug free as are the window sills. The workers were very pleasant as they worked. I would definitely recommend this business."

Small jobs welcome

"I am a 53-year-old female that pretty much does everything herself when it comes to my home I had never used Angie’s list and I was going through the reviews, but the name caught my eye, Shine and Trim! So I thought I would be curious about this lighting for the holidays on my home and give them a call. I have never met such wonderful down to Earth people. I really didn’t think they were around anymore. The wife was unbelievable in scheduling me and keeping the time correct and calling and letting me know what was going on at all times so that I wouldn’t have to worry if they were gonna show up or not Robert her husband brought the lights, and I had taken pictures of what I wanted done and sent them in which helped when he was done. It was so cold, but he lit them up and it was like a winter wonderland. They’re so beautiful. I would recommend this company to do just about anything for me because I think they could and they would So Shine and Trim are well worth your time. I so please!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

On average, hurricane windows last between 20 and 30 years. But some windows only last 10 years, while others can last 50 years or longer. Vinyl hurricane windows have a shorter lifespan than aluminum, so invest in high-quality hurricane windows and properly maintain them to get the most out of your investment.

You should avoid using abrasive materials and harsh chemicals when cleaning windows. Abrasive tools like scrubbing pads, rough cloths, or steel wool can permanently scratch and damage the glass. Harsh chemical cleaners containing alcohol or ammonia can damage window treatments, frame materials, and special features like tinting. It is also best to use distilled or filtered water instead of hard water, which can leave spots or streaks. For best results, use a clean microfiber cloth to wash the glass and old black and white newspapers to dry it without leaving streaks.

No, it isn’t necessary to have energy-efficient windows. However, if you care about your energy bill and making your windows more energy efficient, fixing any heat, UV, or air transfer issues is an excellent way to lower your bills and keep your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Depending on the window style and your home's layout, you can install replacement windows from either the inside or the outside. Many installations are done from the inside because it allows for better access and weather protection, but some exterior installs are easier for certain types of siding or trim. The key is choosing the approach that gives you the best access to the frame while keeping the existing structure intact.

Glass block windows are energy-efficient because they are much thicker than traditional glass panes, making them better insulators. They are sealed airtight, which prevents drafts and stops warm or cool air from escaping, helping to save money on heating and cooling bills. Unlike traditional windows that can be opened and closed, sealed glass block windows eliminate the potential for air leaks. For proven efficiency, look for options that are Energy Star rated. The cost for energy-efficient glass block windows is typically around $400 per window, which may be higher than standard windows.
